Position Overview

The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This list of duties is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the functions and responsibilities performed.

NOTE: This position is funded through an external grant. Continued employment beyond the fiscal year is contingent upon continued funding.

SALARY: $150.00 per Saturday class

Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Director and Coordinator of Upward Bound, the instructor will provide instruction and support to students participating in the Upward Bound Saturday program. The instructor will be compensated on a per-class basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare lesson plans and deliver instruction in one or more of the following subject areas:
    1. Mathematics: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus/Calculus, or SAT Preparation
    2. Science: Laboratory Science (Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Physics, Anatomy, etc.)
    3. English: SAT Reading & Grammar, Literature, or Essay and Report Writing
    4. Electives: Career Exploration, Physical Education (e.g., Self-Defense, Zumba, Pilates, Health & Fitness, etc.)
  • Ensure lesson plans for Mathematics, Science, and English align with NMPED (New Mexico Public Education Department) standards.
  • Must attend monthly Saturday sessions as outlined in the Academic Year schedule.
  • Maintain secure and confidential student records and files.
  • Use evidence-based, interactive teaching techniques to actively engage students.
  • Provide effective classroom management for high school students (grades 9-12).
  • Participate in organized recreational activities with students.

Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in the specific field of instruction.
  • Proper credentials as required by the New Mexico State Board of Education and/or ENMU-R.
Preferred:
  • Experience with challenges facing low-income, at-risk, and first-generation college students.

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily sedentary, but may occasionally require exerting up to 25 pounds of force and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
