Material Area Supervisor - Sterling Heights, MI | $29.83/hr.

Location: Sterling Heights, MI

Pay Rate: $29.83/hour

Schedule: May include varying shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed

Type: Full-time, Onsite

We are seeking a Material Area Supervisor to lead hourly teams in an automotive manufacturing assembly plant. This role is critical to ensuring materials are safely unloaded, stored, and delivered to production efficiently, while fostering a positive, high-performing work environment.

What You'll Do



  • Lead hourly teams to achieve safety, delivery, cost, quality, and morale goals.
  • Develop team leaders and implement World Class Manufacturing (WCM) processes to improve productivity and reduce costs.
  • Ensure inventory and record integrity, maintaining positive relationships with both management and union-represented employees.
  • Manage multiple work teams in a fast-paced, high-volume unionized environment.
  • Coordinate daily team activities to meet business metrics and optimize material flow.
  • Oversee and develop highly functional teams, coaching and mentoring team leaders and members while applying company Leadership Principles.



Qualifications

Required:



  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work varying shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed
  • Comfortable working in hot/cold environments, around heavy equipment, and standing/walking for long periods
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, lift up to 40 lbs, and navigate tight spaces


Preferred:



  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing team members
  • Experience working in a union environment
  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications


Physical Requirements



  • Work around heavy equipment and manufacturing machinery
  • Wear required safety equipment (safety glasses, sleeves, earplugs, steel-toed shoes)
  • Climb ladders, stairs, and man lifts as needed
  • Crawl under vehicles or work in confined spaces as required
