HR Investigator - Onsite | Chicago, IL

Location: Chicago, IL

Schedule: Primarily Monday-Friday; occasional flexibility for evening or weekend shifts

Type: Full-time, Onsite Only

Pay: $40.29/hr.

Are you an experienced HR professional with a strong sense of integrity, fairness, and attention to detail? We're seeking a Human Resources Investigator to lead internal workplace investigations and ensure fair, consistent treatment for all employees. In this role, you'll handle sensitive employee concerns with professionalism, empathy, and sound judgment while maintaining strict confidentiality.

What You'll Do



  • Conduct thorough investigations into workplace issues or concerns raised through internal company channels.
  • Interview hourly employees, accurately transcribing statements in real time.
  • Prepare, track, and maintain clear and complete investigation documentation.
  • Manage sensitive employee data and case files in a highly confidential manner.
  • Build and maintain trust with employees while supporting company goals, values, and a positive workplace culture.
  • Collaborate with salaried personnel and HR leadership to ensure consistent outcomes.
  • Support health and safety initiatives for employees, as applicable.



What You Bring

Required Skills & Experience:



  • 5+ years of experience conducting HR investigations, including interviews, documentation, and case management.
  • 2+ years of experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and employee relations skills.
  • Exceptional typing ability - you'll be capturing statements as employees speak.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.


Preferred Skills & Experience:



  • Experience in a manufacturing and/or unionized environment.
  • Background in labor relations and employee engagement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.


Education:



  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field


Additional Details



  • Candidates must be flexible to occasionally adjust their schedule to interview employees on evening or weekend shifts (rare, but possible).
