The purpose of this position is to maintain and prepare the City's athletic fields and sports complexes. Duties include readying fields for practices, games, and tournaments, maintaining turf and surfaces, inspecting and servicing equipment and structures, operating field maintenance machinery, and assisting with irrigation and drainage. This role collaborates with recreation staff, coaches, and tournament organizers.

Essential Functions

- Performs athletic field preparation and maintenance, including dragging infields, chalking and lining fields, setting bases and pitching rubbers, leveling surfaces, and ensuring all fields meet safety and playability standards.
- Prepares facilities for games, tournaments, and practices by setting up field components, inspecting and repairing dugouts, bleachers, fences, and scoreboards, and coordinating with recreation staff and tournament organizers.
- Operates, inspects, and maintains equipment and machinery such as field drags, tractors, utility vehicles, and hand tools; performs basic preventive maintenance and ensures all equipment is in safe working condition.
- Educates about field conditions, closures, and proper field use and provides courteous and professional services to residents and coworkers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- High School diploma or equivalent with no prior relevant work experience.
Certification and Other Requirements
- Valid Texas Class C Driver's License.
Work Schedule
- This position follows a 4/10 schedule: four 10-hour workdays each week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of athletic field maintenance and turf care.
- Safe operation and maintenance of groundskeeping equipment (mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, field drags, hand tools).
- Athletic field layout, including infield leveling, base setting, pitching rubbers, and chalking/lining.
- Basic mechanical and preventative maintenance procedures for equipment.
- Safety standards for public recreation areas and sports facilities.
- Materials used in field maintenance, such as clay, chalk, and turf treatments.
- Customer service principles and effective communication with the public and staff.
Skilled in:
- Operating and maintaining groundskeeping and field preparation equipment.
- Preparing, leveling, and maintaining ballfields to ensure safety and playability.
- Inspecting, repairing, and maintaining field equipment, facilities, and amenities.
- Setting up and preparing sports facilities for games, tournaments, and practices.
- Responding to public inquiries and providing professional customer service.
- Performing minor facility repairs and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Coordinating with staff, associations, and tournament organizers.
