CNC Programmer

Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a CNC Programmer. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.



Job Summary:

Programs numerical control (NC) and computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines that automatically turn, mill, drill, or a combination of both on metal parts. Operates and sets up conventional, special purpose, numerical control (NC) machines, computer numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to manufacture parts from order specifications. Materials for parts used may include ordinary and alloy steel, stainless steel, brass and other metals in the form of sheet metal, round bar, forging, and castings.



Primary Responsibilities:



  1. Can perform all the job duties of a machinist 3
  2. Creates new and modifies existing programs according to standard practice instructions (SPI).
  3. Backs-up records to P drive and R drive for new and modified programs according to standard practice instructions (SPI).
  4. Studies blue prints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specification or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances, sequence of operations, and set up requirements.
  5. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
  6. Plans and executes assignments using machine tools ranging from lathes, milling and live tool machines. Operates computer console/computer controlled machine. .
  7. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes.
  8. Operates and sets up all types of machine tools and assembles parts to make or repair metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines.
  9. Observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and makes simple to complex adjustments.
  10. Conducts in process inspection. Utilizes precision measuring instruments to check accuracy of work. Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
  11. Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly. Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  12. Deburrs and cleans machined parts. Cleans work area, tools, and equipment.
  13. Confers with engineers, production personnel or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  14. Makes adjustments to adhere to job specifications.
  15. Completes all required work order reporting and documentation.
  16. Adheres to safety practices and procedures.
  17. Follows procedures as defined by Fike policies, procedures and ISO9001 requirements.


Performs related duties as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance is required.



Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; stand; use hand to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds using appropriate moving devices. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.



Work Environment:

The employee is frequently exposed to guarded moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Job Qualifications:

Required: High School Diploma or a General Educational Development Diploma (GED). Ability to read, interpret, and follow instructions, work orders and engineered drawings. Ability to use shop mathematics. Five years or more of related experience, which includes at least four years or experience as a fully operational set up and run machinist and five years experience programming NC or CNC machinery.



Preferred: Exposure to JDEdwards systems.
