Physician, Occupational Health Services Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY Must have enthusiasm for caring for healthcare workers as well as all other associates at Montefiore Medical Center (MMC). Must have knowledge about, or willingness to continue education (through CME, conferences, grand rounds) in the unique field of Medical Center Occupational Health. The primary focus of our Occupational Health clinical team is to identify, prevent, and manage work-related illnesses and injuries. This role requires provision of evidence-based direct patient care (to associates) under the direction of the senior medical director as well as close collaboration with advanced practice providers (NPs) and nurses. The candidate should be a champion for the health and wellbeing of MMG workers. Must have excellent communication skills and be able to effectively partner with multiple departments, including but not limited to, infection prevention and control, human resources, environmental health and safety, Montefiore quality initiatives, primary care and specialty care. Examples of work done by OHS include:
- Pre-placement medical evaluation and clearance
- Blood borne pathogen exposures
- Tuberculosis (screening, surveillance, referral as indicated)
- Work injuries and illnesses
- Work restrictions, clearance for return to work after infectious illness
- Fitness for duty evaluations
- Participation in annual flu vaccine campaign
- Medical evaluation and recommended work disposition/accommodation for associates with disabilities
- Collaboration in return to work and workers compensation programs
- Clinical and administrative work to support compliance with regulatory and survey needs, including but not limited to, the Joint Commission, the Department of Health, and OSHA
- Partner with departments on initiatives relevant to health, safety, and well-being of employees, volunteers, and students within Montefiore Einstein
Examples of responsibilities:
- Order, perform, or interpret the results of diagnostic tests
- Analyze and interpret patients' history, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses
- Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and follow up-to-date professional practice guidelines
- Diagnose or treat acute health care problems such as illnesses, infections, and injuries
- Provide medical screening for groups with exposures to hazards (infectious, chemical, or other hazards at work)
- Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized
- Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with health or safety risks
- Evaluation of an employee's medical or psychological condition when there is reason to be concerned about impairment at work, including substance misuse
- Utilize Electronic Medical Records to full capability and follow MMC policy regarding record completion
- Supervise ancillary providers, teaching/supervision of NPs and RNs as needed
- Review of policies and Quality Improvement Initiatives, and committee participation as requested by the OHS senior medical director
- Committee participation and partnership with stakeholders such as environmental health & safety, human resources, infection prevention & control within the Montefiore Einstein Health System
- Utilize Electronic Medical Records to full capability and follow MMC policy regarding record completion
