SFCS is seeking a Project Architect to join our Roanoke, Virginia office. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the technical development and execution of medium- to large-scale projects while collaborating with architects, engineers, interior designers, and planners in a multidisciplinary environment.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced, mid-level, architectural professional who enjoys developing thoughtful, innovative, and technically sound design solutions from concept through construction. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical judgment, excellent coordination skills, and a passion for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional project outcomes.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed Architect preferred; candidates actively pursuing licensure are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience supporting architectural projects through all phases of design and construction.
  • Experience serving senior living, healthcare, education, government, or other institutional markets.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable building codes, ADA requirements, construction methods, detailing, and construction documentation.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Newforma, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to provide guidance and support to early career architectural professionals.
  • Passion for thoughtful, purpose-driven design and technical excellence.


Responsibilities


  • Coordinate the architectural design development process from schematic design through construction administration.
  • Develop coordinated, technically sound, and buildable design solutions that support project goals and design intent.
  • Prepare and coordinate construction documents, specifications, and technical details while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and SFCS quality standards.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, interior designers, consultants, and specialty disciplines to integrate all project elements.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to support project planning, scope, schedules, budgets, and overall project delivery.
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and project discussions while effectively incorporating client feedback throughout the design process.
  • Provide construction administration services, including responses to RFIs, submittal reviews, site observations, field reports, and coordination with contractors.
  • Utilize Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Newforma, and other design technologies to support project delivery.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to early career team members while contributing to a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Stay current with evolving building codes, technologies, materials, and industry best practices.
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically in support of project assignments, client meetings, site visits, and collaboration across SFCS offices.
