INOVA Fairfax Medical Campus is looking for a dedicated Laboratory Technical Specialist with strong knowledge and interest in microbiology to oversee microbiology kit testing to join the team! Laboratory Technical Specialist Job Responsibilities:
- oversight of quality control and regulatory preparedness,
- Inventory management,
- training new staff, and competency assessment.
- Follows standard protocol for patient/donor identification and specimen/blood product labeling including final verification.
- Prepares and distributes specimens to departments according to specimen requirement and priority delivery.
- Documents, per facility process, when a specimen does not meet acceptable criteria for result reporting.
- Uses department resources efficiently during instrument operations. Avoids urgent supply requests and inventory loss due to expiration; Properly receives and stores supplies.
- Actively ensures quality assurance in the department by performing required quality control procedures including corrective action and documentation for all procedures/instrumentation.
- Leads and/or actively participates in quality improvement projects by enhancing team and departmental development; Provides constructive feedback and positive reinforcement to coworkers.

Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in science from a college/university recognized by regional or national accreditation agency.
- Experience: 3 years of experience in an accredited laboratory under the supervision of a pathologist certified by the American Board of Pathology
- Preferred experience: Previous experience performing, implementing, and troubleshooting culture and molecular (qualitative and quantitative) based infectious disease testing.
- Certification: ASCP Certification consistent with the scope of responsibility (MLS/MT,MLT, HT, HTL, BB, C, H, M, CT) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Laboratory Technologist Certification (HEW).
