The Research Specialist position will work with the Principal Investigator in Cancer Biology in the UW Laboratory of Joshua Lang, MD,MS, at the UW Carbone Cancer Center. A major focus in the Lang lab includes studying mechanisms of targeted therapy resistance and circulating tumor cells. This research will focus on development of liquid biopsy assays as well as pre-clinical models of targeted therapy resistance in prostate cancer. The position requires the ability to work in a collaborative environment with other investigators on joint projects in this field. Involvement in these activities is expected to lead to scholarly work that will be published in scientific journals.

  • This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Caregiver Information
  • This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • Performs literature reviews and writes reports
  • Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers

Compensation:

The starting salary for the position is $55,000; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in molecular biology methods, next generation sequencing, or immunology is desired but not required

  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy is desired but not required.

  • Experience with cell culture flow cytometry and microfluidic technologies is desired but not required.


Education:

Bachelor's Degree preferred; preferred focus in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biomedical Engineering or other closely related biological science.
