The Composites Engineering Intern is a generalist who supports product design, prototype development, new process introduction, and manufacturing using their knowledge of composite materials and processes. This position will develop an end-to-end understanding of composite processes and specialist technologies unique to the composites industry. This position will focus on integrating knowledge and experience from a multi-disciplined team including engineers focused on design, tooling, manufacturing, systems and controls/automation. Continuous improvement and root cause corrective action (RCCA) actions will also be supported.



Primary Responsibilities:




  • Assist in the development, testing, and improvement of manufacturing processes and equipment



  • Support production teams with troubleshooting and process optimization efforts



  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends, inefficiencies, or opportunities for process improvements



  • Help implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives



  • Create and update documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and technical reports



  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality, and operations, to support project goals



  • Present findings, reports, or project updates to engineering and management teams as required

Experience/Education/Skills

Experience:



  • Completed at least two years towards a BS or higher in Engineering or related field (Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, etc) with a GPA of 3.0 or more
  • Demonstrated engineering aptitude through university coursework
  • Ability to apply fundamental engineering principles learned in Freshman and Sophomore level courses.


Preferred Additional Skills:



  • Team and people skills that are required to ensure efficient execution of tasks
  • Experience with composite materials
  • Background in multiple of the following disciplines:

    • Fluid Mechanics and Rheology
    • Heat Transfer and Thermodynamics
    • Solid Mechanics
    • Robotics and Controls
    • CAD and CAD manipulation
    • Measurement Systems Analyses and Manufacturing Statistics
    • Polymer Chemistry [Basic knowledge of]


  • Knowledge of IoT (internet of things) and Industry 4.0
  • Basic programming skills
  • Fluency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to non-Engineers
