Job Description:

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cyber Protection Specialist to join their team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of protecting critical systems, networks, and applications from evolving cyber threats. You will leverage your deep knowledge of security tools, threat intelligence, intrusion analysis, and incident response to safeguard sensitive data and ensure organizational resilience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, detect, and respond to cyber threats across enterprise environments, ensuring timely incident assessment and mitigation.
  • Conduct intrusion analysis, vulnerability assessments, and forensic investigations to support enterprise security posture.
  • Research, track, and analyze emerging threats, attack methods, and malicious campaigns.
  • Collect, validate, and apply open-source intelligence (OSINT) to strengthen defense strategies.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in malware, botnets, distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, social engineering, insider threats, and hacktivism.
  • Administer and optimize IDS/IPS systems, firewalls, and endpoint protection tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain security controls, policies, and remediation strategies.
  • Develop and communicate clear, actionable recommendations to mitigate risk and limit operational/reputational impact.
  • Support compliance with NIST 800-171 and other applicable security frameworks.
  • Mentor and guide team members while contributing to process improvements and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of IT security best practices, cybersecurity operations, and security compliance processes.
  • Proficiency with multiple operating systems (Windows, Linux, Mac) and OS internals.
  • Hands-on experience with vulnerability remediation across multiple platforms.
  • Technical expertise in IDS/IPS, firewalls, authentication, encryption, WAFs, HIPS, and other security controls.
  • Experience with Nessus Security Center (or ACAS, Tenable Security Center).
  • Familiarity with malware analysis, packet analysis, Splunk, and OSINT reconnaissance.
  • Experience with STIX, TAXII, OpenIOC, or other threat intelligence schemas.
  • Programming/scripting skills in at least one language (Python, Ruby, PowerShell, C#, Bash, Perl, C++).
  • Database administration experience with Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL, or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of Industrial Control System (ICS) security a plus.
  • Ability to review, interpret, and translate data related to vulnerability remediation.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to adapt quickly to new technologies.
  • Effective in fast-paced environments with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, with ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as lead or mentor small teams.
  • Due to the nature of the work, a Secret clearance is required.
