DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION * Provide nursing care during transport from the initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility. Perform advanced skills and procedures as approved by the Medical Director(s). Communicate educational needs to the medical base supervisor and medical education coordinator. Participate in patient and referring institution follow-up. * Assess the inpatient's condition and nursing needs, set goals, and prescribe appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient, including discharge planning. Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions in accomplishing goals and intended patient care outcomes. Maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the hospital and assigned nursing unit. Complete thorough patient care documentation. * Assess, intervene, and reassess the patient's self-report and pain symptoms promptly. Utilize an appropriate tool for assessment and reassessment (0-10 numerical scale, FACES, or the FLACC.) Demonstrate an understanding of medications regarding action and side effects. Report pertinent information to the appropriate individual. Educate patients and parents or guardians about their medications and care. * Assist in pre-mission liftoff checklist and assist pilot as requested, such as radio, navigational, and visual observation activities. Maintain adequate supplies onboard the aircraft or ambulance to deliver patient care. Comply with safety standards to assure safety of self, medical personnel, patient, and equipment. Report medical equipment failures and initiate repair of equipment as directed. * Maintain documentation of required licensure, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures. Maintain competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory, educational, and clinical experiences. * Participate in committees, planned outreach marketing and education activities, projects, research, and publishing opportunities. Assist in continuing education and serve as a resource to other departments within MU Health Care. Participate in departmental quality improvement activities. Act as a preceptor and participate in orienting new employees and students as assigned. * May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * Two (2) years of critical care or emergency RN experience. * Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days. * Advanced certification in one of the following within three (3) years as a condition of continued employment in this job classification: * --Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN) by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN); or * --Peds or Neonatal Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACCN); or * --Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB); or * --Certified Neonate/Pediatric Transport (C-NPT) or Registered Nurse Certified Neonatal Intensive Care (RNC-NIC) by the National Certification Corporation (NCC). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree or bachelor's degree in health-related field. * Neonate and pediatric nursing experience. * Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and may require ambulating, remaining in a stationary position and positioning self to reach and/or move objects above the shoulders and below the knees. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 100 lbs and occasionally move objects up to 25 lbs or more. The employee must not exceed a flight weight of 230lbs including flight gear. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
