About the Role
The Truckload Customer Operations Coordinator works closely with customers and sales personnel to quote truckload and intermodal rates to obtain business from ML's customers and prospective customers. An average of 50 to 60 load quotes per day. This position has no subordinates.
What you'll do:
- Receive shipping order requirements and specifications from business development team and various customers to effectively provide a competitive truckload or intermodal rate.
- Effectively use ML pricing and capacity tools to evaluate current truck costs and truck capacity prior to providing a quote to the customer.
- Set margin expectations for quotes provided to customers, keeping in mind the competitive rate levels in the market to secure additional customer business.
- Communicate with customers by providing regular status reports of shipments in progress and monitors status daily.
- Identify any delays associated with shipments as they arise and contingency plans for customers.
- Inform customers of freight delays and loads sustaining overages, shortages, and damage.
- Gather data and conducts preliminary investigations pertaining to customer loads that sustain overages, shortages, and/or damage to minimize loss and assist in mitigating loss claims. Assist in resolving situations involving distressed loads or other trip complications.
- Review customer invoice discrepancies and resolve any discrepancies with the customer.
- Negotiate for unanticipated services with the customer and processes the necessary approvals on these accessorial costs to ensure prompt collection from the customer.
- Correspond with coworkers in Sales and other departments to ensure execution of customer service expectations.
- Develop a knowledge and understanding of customers' products and truckload transportation requirements.
- Cultivate relationships with existing, new, and prospective customers to generate business, which results in the realization of positive gross margins for Matson Logistics.
- Engage in activities intended to increase ML's market share, work volumes, and corresponding margins by meeting and working with the sales team and external customers to develop and implement truckload and intermodal transportation solutions.
- Comply with all company rules, policies, and procedures. Work and behave safely by following all safety rules and regulations.
- Perform any task required to support customer requirements and company goals.
You have these skills:
- Strong interpersonal and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including excellent telephone skills.
- Strong ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.
- Work well with others, including vendors, suppliers, and internal and external customers to achieve common goals.
- Ability to develop solid working knowledge of intermodal transportation industry.
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing customer requests and requirements.
- Ability to accurately input and edit transaction data, in a timely manner, (including accessories and discrepancies) in the Company's computerized order-entry system
- Ability to manage seasonally heavy workloads.
- Must possess and exercise excellent customer service skills at all times.
And these qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, four year degree in transportation or business strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of MS Office programs or other comparable computer software programs.

- Consistently demonstrating professional and pleasant behavior and effectively communicating in stressful situations and/or environments.

The salary range is posted for this position in Illinois and is eligible for commissions. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
