Cost Engineer

Location: Amarillo, TX, United States

Employment Type: Full-time, onsite

Salary Range: $88,400 - $128,128


Position Summary

We are seeking a Cost Engineer to join the estimating and cost control team for a large-scale project in Amarillo, Texas. This role will work closely with project managers, cost managers, superintendents, and subcontractors to analyze design and construction documents, validate cost proposals, and prepare accurate cost estimates for project scopes and scope changes.

The Cost Engineer will play an essential role in maintaining accurate job cost reporting, tracking key indicators, and supporting monthly reconciliations and executive reporting.


Key Responsibilities


  • Setup and maintain job cost reports, including budgets, commitments, forecasts, contingencies, and spends



  • Track costs by bid package, field order, and owner-defined change categories



  • Develop and maintain project cost indicators, including visual graphics for reporting



  • Review subcontractor and vendor cost proposals for accuracy and compliance



  • Reconcile project cost reports monthly



  • Interpret design and construction documents to quantify materials required for construction



  • Perform on-screen take-offs of material quantities



  • Prepare and manage cost authorization packages for approvals



  • Summarize quantities of materials in an organized manner for reporting and tracking




Qualifications

Professional Experience & Education




  • Minimum 2 years of construction estimating or cost engineering experience required



  • Industrial and/or high-tech semiconductor manufacturing project experience preferred



  • LEED Accredited Professional or ability to achieve accreditation within 18 months preferred



  • High school diploma or GED required



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent work experience)



  • Strong foundation in construction materials and methods




Technical Skills




  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)



  • Familiarity with project management platforms: Prolog, Procore, E-Builder, Bluebeam, MS Project, Primavera P6



  • Experience with design software: AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks



  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, and survey data



  • Familiarity with CSI specification system




Soft Skills




  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail



  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities



  • Ability to multitask and manage priorities in fast-paced environments



  • Professional, team-oriented mindset with patience and adaptability



  • Flexible schedule to accommodate extended or off-shift work when required




Physical & Work Environment Requirements


  • Combination of office and field activity throughout the workday



  • Ability to climb stairs (approx. 5% of workday)



  • Frequent use of computers and related equipment



  • Strong vision, hearing, and communication abilities to perform essential functions



  • Ability to lift or carry up to 20 lbs occasionally



  • Frequent mental focus and attention to detail required
