OVERVIEW

Merrick & Company's High Performance Facilities (HPF) Civil engineering team is seeking a Civil Engineer II candidate to support a wide variety of federal, national defense, renewable energy, and biotechnology projects in our Huntsville, AL office. Merrick is an employee-owned multi-disciplinary firm boasting six different business units in multiple market sectors with projects across, and sometimes outside of, the United States. The HPF Civil team regularly collaborates to achieve solutions to better our world by engaging in exciting, challenging, unique, and novel projects, from small to large and complex, in support of Merrick's business enterprise. We are looking for a candidate who is a strong cultural fit for our group, and who is passionate about contributing to a remarkable team.

Basic office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Core hours are 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Paid overtime is occasionally available as needed or desired.

Typical salary range for this position is $88,000 - $108,0000. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Team Environment

  • Work with a core HPF Civil team of motivated individuals comprised of civil designers, civil engineers, and senior civil engineers who are passionate about what we do
  • Be part of a high-morale group with strong focus on mentorship, being exposed to a variety of civil projects, training, expanding skill sets, team participation, communication, and collaboration
  • Work with other professionals within the Merrick enterprise including project managers; architects; landscape architects; and other engineering disciplines (structural, mechanical/plumbing, electrical, fire protection, process)
  • Opportunity for a hybrid/remote work arrangement and flexible work hours after establishing baseline trustworthiness with the HPF Civil team
  • If desired, opportunities for site visits in proximity to home office, and opportunities for more extensive project travel as roles and responsibilities increase with experience

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Civil Engineer II candidate will provide intermediate-level civil engineering design work, under supervision of senior engineers and peers, including:

  • Oversight of and participation in preparation of civil project construction documents (plans, specifications, technical narratives, calculations)
  • Potential for stamping and sealing of project construction documents pending level of experience and project requirements
  • Participation in quality assurance and quality control (QAQC) reviews for Merrick peers and third-party entities
  • Management of civil project-level design teams (supervision, scheduling, task management, budget tracking)
  • Potential for management of direct staff reports pending level of experience and team needs
  • Grading and earthworks using Autodesk Civil3D
  • Infrastructure design and analysis for:
    • Stormwater drainage
    • Sanitary sewer
    • Pressurized water distribution
    • Natural gas
    • Site fencing and security
    • Communications and electrical duct banks
    • Site layout, roadway, and parking lot design
  • Modeling and analysis
  • Technical writing
  • Specification preparation
  • Familiarity with code requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of civil engineering technical principles and practices
  • 4-8 years of industry experience
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • NCEES record holder
  • Working experience with Autodesk Civil3D, Microsoft Office suite, and Bluebeam software
