How does this role contribute to our collective success?

The Pricing function supports underwriters and management in building robust and profitable portfolios by providing objective insights through deep product expertise and by utilizing state-of-the-art functional capabilities.

The Property Pricing team is responsible for all pricing analytics for E&S, Inland Marine, Global Property, Delegated Property and Construction across the insurance division. Their focus is on applying common analytical standards across the products for case pricing, performance measurement, and portfolio steering.

The North America Property Pricing Actuary will be a leading contributor to the North America Lines pricing practice and will be embedded with underwriting functions for the business units. This role will proactively engage with Reserving, Risk Management, Finance, and Claims colleagues to achieve desired business outcomes and implement business strategies. Their detailed knowledge of these portfolios would result in insightful analytics to support overall product strategy and goals.

What will you do in this role?
  • Assist with the development, validation, and maintenance of a suite of technical pricing models across the various Property products which enable:

    • Technical pricing of individual risks

    • Direct capture of rate and exposure changes from prior terms

    • Production of pricing loss ratios by class

    • Assessment of individual risk rate adequacy and profitability tier

  • Support individual transactions and perform case pricing in line with pricing governance, as needed.

  • Lead the regular product monitoring analysis cycle for the lines and lead the discussion with the Division and Business leaders to identify issues, discuss opportunities, assist in the development of actions plans, and develop measures to monitor their progress.

  • Contribute to the Property Underwriting management team in the development, assessment, and implementation of business strategies.

  • Synthesize information across subject areas and present conclusions to divisional management.

  • Coordinate the selection of expected loss ratios for financial planning in consideration of business strategies, market conditions, mix of business, loss trend, loss costs and reinsurance structures - engaging with Reserving to corroborate planning assumptions.

  • Evaluate the potential profitability and assemble expected loss and combined ratio selections for new business opportunities.

  • Develop, support, and maintain key risk assumptions by class, and integrate risk-based pricing metrics into individual risk pricing and portfolio measurement.

  • Recommend and introduce more technical and detailed price monitoring analyses.

  • Help with management and development of a team of supporting actuaries.

  • Recommend and assist with the implementation of more comprehensive data capture.

About You:

  • Associate or Fellow of an accredited Actuarial Society, or commensurate experience. Intention to qualify as a fellow of professional body, strong track record of progress in actuarial examinations to date.

  • 6 to 9+ years of actuarial experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of Property exposures, coverages, and accumulation models.

  • Direct knowledge of technical price modelling and experience-based rating concepts.

  • Able to self-start own tasks and be proactive with thought leadership.

  • Able to develop, recommend and implement new approaches, proactively challenging the status quo and developing innovative ideas.

  • Able to communicate technical concepts and establish credibility with audiences at all levels, including Executive Leadership.

  • Understanding of the standard reserving and pricing methods and the key issues and trends.

Role Factors:

In this role, you will typically be required to:

  • Be in the office averaging 3 days per week and as required to perform your job duties with appropriate flexibility.

What we offer:

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of 130k to 190k (NY), 120k to 160k (GA). Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location.

In addition, you will be offered competitive target incentive compensation, with awards based on overall corporate and individual performance.
