As an Underwriter in our Lending department at Consumers Credit Union, you'll be reviewing consumer, indirect auto, and Visa credit applications to help our members get what they need-smartly and responsibly. You'll weigh risk, make fast and fair decisions, and work hand-in-hand with our indirect dealership partners to keep business rolling in.

This role blends the precision of finance with the art of relationship-building. It's more than number-crunching-it's about people, trust, and doing the right thing every time.

Location/ Schedule:



  • Lake Forest, Illinois (hybrid/flexible work schedule, 2-3 days/week onsite). Local Northern IL/Southeastern WI candidates only!
  • Availability to work 40+ hours/week and be scheduled between the following hours: Monday through Friday: 8:00 am - 6:00 pm and Rotating Saturdays: 8:00 am - 2:00 pm (some Federal holidays may be mandatory based on business needs)


Key Responsibilities:



  • Analyze loan applications (consumer, indirect, and Visa) with a keen eye for risk and reward
  • Make the decision to approve, decline, or escalate the loan request to higher levels for decision.
  • Partner with dealerships-build and grow strong relationships with decision-makers
  • Educate and advocate-share the benefits of our products with our dealer network
  • Spot opportunities-identify chances to cross-sell helpful products in collaboration with sales
  • Support the CCU team-offer guidance on lending policy and documentation standards
  • Ensure clean contracts-work with processors and dealers to collect complete, accurate docs


      What You Bring:



      • High School diploma or equivalent
      • 2+ years of experience in underwriting, sales or a related financial services role
      • Solid understanding of consumer lending practices and credit risk analysis
      • Strong communication skills, both with teammates and external partners
      • Ability to juggle tasks without dropping the ball (or the loan folder)
      • Ability to work independently in fast paced environment and adaptable to change

      Compensation:

      The salary range for this role is $55,867 to $83,801 per year. This role is eligible for an annual bonus opportunity. A specific salary offer considers factors including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
