Mission:

Senior Vice President of Business Development (SVPBD) develops and leads the business development vision, strategy, plans, and processes that will drive Orders, Books-to-Bill Ratio, increase revenue, expand markets, and accomplish financial objectives.

The SVPBD will report to the CEO and drive the formation and execution of the Business Development organization, including the bid and proposal process and other aspects of business development necessary to facilitate the growth and diversification of BGS. The ideal candidate will have experience in a multi-site business and a proven track record leading teams in identifying, negotiating, and closing high-quality transactions. The SVPBD will work closely with the CEO and Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) to define and execute the Company's strategic priorities and partner across the organization on critical initiatives supporting the corporate growth strategy.

The SVPBD will be instrumental in helping lead the organization through its next critical growth phase. This role requires strategic business development skills, a strong finance modeling and M&A background, an entrepreneurial mindset, and tactical capabilities with a proven track record.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Identifies and evaluates new markets, partners, channels, and customers.
  • Researches and analyzes the business environment, competitors, and customers to develop ideas for new products and services, pricing, and business models.
  • Directs financial feasibility studies, development of proposals, and negotiations for new business opportunities.
  • Collaborates with Marketing, sales, product development, and other stakeholders to support business development plans.
  • Manage business unit, division, or corporate function with significant organizational impact.
  • Establishes overall direction and strategic initiatives for the given primary function or line of business.
  • Day-to-day management of the Enterprise Business Development function and support personnel. This includes personnel management, hiring, and leadership of the organization to prioritize and achieve the business's growth objectives.
  • Develop and manage the BD pipeline based on input from the business unit leaders and industry forecasts to identify and screen opportunities supporting the strategic plan.
  • Periodically review the pipeline with executive leadership to ensure capture plans are in progress for long lead items, form strategic alliances, and take other actions to ensure success.
  • Provide support for capture planning.
  • Lead the proposal efforts for the company.
  • Work closely with the CSO to continue refining and implementing a sound acquisition and development plan for the Company, including specific development strategies designed to achieve short-and long-term growth and profit objectives.
  • Analyze opportunities quickly to assess deals, putting them in three target categories: highly attractive, moderately attractive, and mildly attractive. Then, appropriately assess and bid based on deal quality, with emphasis on speed and likelihood of closure.
  • Partner closely with Business Unit Leaders on the successful planning and capture of new opportunities supporting the growth of BGS.
  • Review and update a market assessment and refine the M&A strategy with the CSO, focused on achieving ambitious growth objectives.
  • Serve as the day-to-day lead across all aspects of the business development process.
  • Drive deal sourcing, due diligence processes, negotiation, and execution of strategic transactions, as well as integration and post-deal management of acquisition activities.
  • Actively manage a pipeline of potential acquisition opportunities.
  • Coordinate and drive accurate financial analysis of acquisition targets and purchase price valuation.
  • Develop trusted relationships. Foster and maintain a strong network.
  • Support the CSO with the financial performance of acquisition targets to prepare financial documents, models, metrics reports, and synergies assessments.
  • Develop business cases for various opportunities, including deal-specific financial analysis (accounting for strategic, financial, legal, and tax implications).
  • Be responsible for identifying and monitoring business trend outlooks, market analysis, and gathering competitive intelligence to contribute to strategic business planning discussions with leadership.
  • Provide Analysis of trends and valuations for the market; research and prepare interest profiles.
  • Work collaboratively with all departments to execute strategic goals.
  • Establish highly effective relationships with internal stakeholders.

Professional Experience/Qualifications

  • Minimum BS/BA degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 20+ years of proven relevant business experience.
  • Experience and ability in all phases of government and commercial proposal development and production.
  • Must balance multiple projects and be flexible with schedule to meet deadlines.
  • Experience creating various marketing materials (e.g., flyers, brochures, display banners, website content, press releases, etc.).
  • Willingness to contribute to the company's success by assisting multiple groups.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.)
  • Creative thinker who can develop and explain value propositions for potential targets.
  • Strong process and analytical skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrate initiative, has a strong desire to succeed and is willing to exert the extraordinary efforts that will be required.
  • High competency in managing internal and external resources and projects to achieve goals with attention to detail and commitment to timing.
