Job Overview

Responsible for performing laboratory testing and procedures in any/all areas of the laboratory and reporting timely accurate test results.

Additional Information:

Department: Blood Bank
Hours: 40 hours/week
Shift: Day shift, rotating weekends and holidays

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for reporting accurate results, evaluating results for clinical significance and validity, and for recognition of atypical/abnormal results requiring additional follow up.
  • Ensures quality control is acceptable and instrumentation is functioning and maintained within defined tolerance limits and documentation is completed.
  • Consciously works to minimize errors and takes responsibility for correcting and documenting errors in a timely manner.
  • Performs all laboratory functions according to standard operating procedures and guidelines established by regulatory agencies, including participation in proficiency testing and familiarization with regulations and quality indicators.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and assay performance when results are questionable.
  • Teaches, trains and/or mentors new employees, students and other healthcare professionals according to standard operating procedures, when requested.
  • Responsible for completing quality assurance activities such as maintenance, statistics, calibration verification and quality control review.
  • Participates in procedure review and writing.
  • May perform validations, verifications and implementation of new assays.
  • May assist in competency assessment.
  • May procure blood from patients by venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick to obtain blood samples for analysis following age-specific guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • EDUCATION - Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • EXPERIENCE - Two years clinical laboratory experience required.
  • EQUIVALENCY - Meeting one of the other requirements set by the ASCP Board of Certification may be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • CERTIFICATION(S) - Medical Technologist/Scientist Certification ASCP or equivalent

Blood Bank experience preferred, but not required.

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $31.55 to $47.32
