If so, we 're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking a Systems Engineer with expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to join the System Definition and Validation Group within the Force Projection Sector. Our team focuses on translating warfighter needs and capability gaps into system definitions for development of strategic weapon systems, and validate the developed systems meet those needs. We serve as trusted technical partners to sponsors, industry, and stakeholders for defining and validating system capabilities required to meet evolving threat and warfighter needs. Our team works directly with the government sponsors, the prime contractors, and a national team of UARCs, FFRDCs, and industry partners, providing independent, technical inputs and recommendations to help ensure the nation and warfighter receive the required capabilities for the mission. To achieve this, we provide expertise in weapon systems engineering, weapon system design and analysis, requirements and architecture definition, decision science and trade space exploration, and mission and CONOPS definition. Your contributions will be key to advancing nationally important defense programs and providing critical contributions to strategic weapon systems.

As a Systems Engineer...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to provide systems engineering expertise focusing on requirements analysis, concept/technology development, risk assessments and test & evaluation for strategic deterrent systems.
  • You will utilize tools to analyze weapon system capabilities and to assist in the development of future weapon system requirements.
  • You will participate in design and requirements reviews.
  • You will provide domain expertise while conducting research, studies, and analysis on current and future weapons system capabilities and performance, as well as provide supporting data and associated recommendations to advise program sponsors.
  • You will deliver formal presentations to sponsors and supporting contractors, and effectively communicate proposed concepts/solutions and analysis results. You will produce reports that bring together concept definitions, requirements, analysis results, and technical recommendations.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physics or related technical field.
  • Have experience performing systems engineering.
  • Have experience in early concept development, requirements analysis, design, test and evaluation, and risk assessment.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong critical thinking skills.
  • Have shown the ability to participate in teams, including industry and government sponsors.
  • Are willing and able to travel periodically, including short duration visits to sponsor offices at the Washington Navy Yard and to supporting contractor sites, as well as occasional travel to other military bases across the country.
  • Hold an active Secret security clearance and are able to obtain a Top Secret clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You 'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have an advanced degree in systems engineering.
  • Have experience in systems engineering for missile systems.
  • Have an understanding of DoD acquisition processes, Navy Strategic Systems programs, and/or Air Force ICBM programs.
  • Have familiarity with systems engineering software, especially model based systems engineering (MBSE) tools like Magic Draw and DOORS.
  • Have knowledge of the Navy Trident II Strategic Weapon System and/or Air Force ICBM System.
  • Hold an active Top Secret security clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
