Lead General Laborer - Hidden Valley Transfer Station

Hidden Valley Transfer Station, a Waste Connections Company, is seeking a dependable and motivated Lead General Laborer to join our team in Puyallup, Washington. This full-time, year-round position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, leads by example, and is committed to safety, service, and sustainability.

Schedule: Sunday-Wednesday, 7:30 AM to 6 PM with regular overtime

Pay Range: $25.00 - $26.00 per hour, depending on experience

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and coordinate daily labor tasks to ensure efficient and safe site operations
• Monitor workflow and assist in prioritizing tasks for labor staff
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the transfer station, including sweeping, shoveling, and debris removal
• Safely direct traffic and assist customers with unloading and disposal procedures
• Operate light equipment and tools such as pressure washers, compactors, and forklifts (if certified)
• Perform routine safety checks and report hazards or equipment issues promptly
• Train and mentor new laborers on safety protocols and operational procedures
• Communicate effectively with site supervisors and other departments to support smooth operations
• Assist with minor maintenance and repairs as needed
• Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a physically demanding outdoor role, preferably in waste management or industrial operations
• Proven leadership experience, with the ability to direct and support a team in a fast-paced environment
• Strong understanding of safety protocols and ability to enforce them consistently
• Comfortable working in environments with strong odors, heavy equipment, and varying weather conditions
• Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs regularly and standing/walking for extended periods
• Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional vocational training or certifications (e.g., First Aid, OSHA) preferred
• Safety-sensitive position - must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening
