The Data Scientist II is an experienced professional with knowledge of and some experience with data analytics principles, practices, concepts, and theories. The incumbent is responsible for modeling complex business problems and discovering business insights through statistical, algorithmic, mining, and visualization techniques. The incumbent contributes to building and developing the organization's data infrastructure and supports the senior leadership with insights, management reports, and analysis for the decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand the decision-making process, workflows, and business and information needs of business unit heads and service manager/owners
- Translate business needs into analytics/reporting requirements to support executive decisions and workflows with required information
- Proactively mine data warehouses to identify trends and patterns and generate insights for business units and senior leadership
- Create scripts that can be reused to preprocess data sets, perform analysis, etc.
- Research and implement cutting-edge techniques and tools in machine learning/deep learning/artificial intelligence to make data analysis more efficient
- Develop business insights and engaging reports on results of data analysis using data visualization
- Develop frameworks and processes to analyze unstructured information collected through social media platforms, including wikis, blogs, instant messaging, etc.
- Advise product teams on new products, features or updates through data-based recommendations
- Support user experience specialists and information architects to enhance information visualization through development of dashboards and user interfaces
- Perform large-scale experimentation to identify hidden relationships between variables in large datasets
- Determine requirements that will be used to train and evolve models and algorithms
- Participate in the integration of current systems (e.g., SAP) and analytical techniques to enhance/streamline current operations and improve efficiency; assist with process automation by identifying areas to reduce routine manual tasks

Qualifications
- Required Education, Experience, & Skills - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics or other quantitative field, Masters and PhD strongly preferred
- 3-5+ years of related experience
- Experience in Python/Jupyter, R, RStudio, SAS, Scala, Excel, Minitab, SQL, MySQL, MS Access, TOAD Data Point, Tableau and PowerBI
- Experience in leveraging both structured and unstructured data sources, using big data analysis tools and techniques, and building and deploying predictive models, web scraping, and scalable data pipelines
- Experience using statistics and machine learning to solve complex business problems and conducting statistical analysis with advanced statistical software, scripting languages, and packages
- Experience with SAP and other financial systems preferred
- Strong knowledge in machine learning, data analytics tools and techniques, predictive modeling methodology, the Utility industry, and leading practices
- Knowledge in statistical and data mining techniques: generalized linear model (GLM)/regression, random forest, boosting, trees, hierarchical clustering, deep learning, convolutional neural network (CNN).
- Strong communication (writing, speaking, storytelling), interpersonal, listening, and negotiation skills to communicate complex results to technical and non-technical audiences and influence with a consultative approach
