A Technical Solutions Manager in the geospatial field oversees the design, implementation, and management of solutions that use spatial data and various technologies to improve product and service offerings. This is a management role that combines strong technical expertise in Geospatial sciences with project leadership and client-facing skills. They are responsible for delivering successful projects on time and within budget and working with other project management professionals on innovations and technologies to improve quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

    Design and Implementation:
    Lead the architectural design and deployment of enterprise geospatial solutions, integrating advanced technologies such as LiDAR, AI-driven processing (including Solv3d workflows), and machine learning models to enhance data accuracy and usability. Configure and optimize enterprise GIS platforms (e.g., Esri ArcGIS suite) while ensuring seamless integration of 3D data, point clouds, and other complementary technologies.
  • Technical Leadership and Team Management:
    Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of GIS and geospatial technology professionals, including developers, analysts, LiDAR specialists, and AI/ML engineers. Define project objectives, oversee complex data-driven initiatives, and ensure that deliverables meet quality, innovation, and performance standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    Collaborate closely with clients and stakeholders to identify opportunities where LiDAR, AI, and machine learning can optimize workflows, improve decision-making, and unlock new insights. Translate business needs into actionable technical strategies, and communicate complex geospatial and AI concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Project Management:
    When appropriate, oversee the full project lifecycle-from scoping and data acquisition (including LiDAR and drone mapping) to advanced processing, machine learning model training, and final delivery. Manage budgets, schedules, and risks while ensuring timely and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Customer Support and Training:
    Provide tailored training on LiDAR visualization, AI-enhanced analytics, and machine learning integration within GIS environments. Offer continuous support to maximize the value of geospatial solutions and enable clients to adopt innovative practices.
  • Innovation and Strategy:
    Continuously evaluate and implement emerging technologies-such as LiDAR-based 3D mapping, AI-powered classification, and machine learning predictive models-to improve geospatial workflows, data accuracy, and service offerings. Drive innovation by piloting and integrating complementary tools like Solv3d for point cloud visualization and collaboration.


Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or Engineering is typically required, though experience may be substituted.
  • Extensive experience with geospatial platforms such as Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and ArcGIS Online, combined with hands-on knowledge of LiDAR data processing and 3D visualization tools.
  • Technical Skills:
    • LiDAR and 3D Data Processing: Proficiency in managing and analyzing LiDAR point clouds, DEM/DSM generation, and 3D modeling. Experience with platforms like Solv3d for visualization and collaboration.
    • AI and Machine Learning: Knowledge of training, validating, and deploying machine learning models for geospatial applications (e.g., classification, predictive modeling, feature extraction). Familiarity with integrating AI into existing GIS workflows.
    • Data Management: Strong background in spatial databases (e.g., SQL, PostGIS) and handling large-scale geospatial datasets.
    • Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in Python (ArcPy, SciKit-Learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow integration) to automate workflows and enable AI/ML pipelines.
    • Integration: Experience integrating LiDAR, AI, and GIS solutions with enterprise systems through APIs and web services.
    • Innovation with Complementary Technologies: Familiarity with drones/UAVs, remote sensing platforms, and cloud-based geospatial processing environments.
  • Leadership and management: Proven experience leading technical teams and managing complex projects. A project management certification (e.g., PMP) is often preferred.
  • Domain knowledge: Depending on the industry, specialized knowledge may be necessary. For example, a role in utilities would require an understanding of utility data and business processes.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with a wide range of people, from C-level executives to technical staff.
  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot technical issues and resolve problems throughout the project lifecycle.
