Our client researches infectious diseases impacting the Fighting Force, focusing on dengue, chikungunya, zika, and other emerging viral threats. Efforts span surveillance, sample collection, basic and translational research, and product R&D to field effective medical countermeasures. Cherokee Nation Integrated Health seeks a Research Associate II with serology experience to support DoD virus programs. Responsibilities include advanced virology techniques, data reporting, and potential molecular virology tasks, with added duties in lab management, biosafety, and SOP optimization.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Research Assistant II - Serology: $67,000 - $72,000

Pay commensurate with experience.

Research Assistant II - Serology Responsibilities Include:

  • Performs basic (pure), translational, and exploratory scientific research into flavivirus and alphavirus research and development/improvement of vaccines.

  • Has advanced knowledge of scientific techniques and methodologies and applies independent judgement in performing research, such as maintaining, expanding, and freezing a diverse range of cell lines (mammalian and insect cells lines), virus neutralization assay, virus amplification, concentration and purification, and immunostaining assays.

  • Compile experimental data and results to report them to the supervisor.

  • Assist in molecular virology techniques, including cloning, DNA, RNA and protein assays.

  • Experience with Flow Cytometry, ELISA, ELISPOT, Western Blot, etc

  • Develops Standard Operating Procedures for complex assays and updates them independently based upon operational situations.

  • Designs research studies.

  • Processes laboratory samples, executes assays, documents results, and compiles and analyzes data.

  • Ensures assays are executed following guidelines and designated procedures.

  • Advanced familiarity with standard concepts, practices and procedures.

  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Develops independent research protocols.

  • Works independently to plan and execute work, analyze results and develop scientific recommendations.

  • Assists with leading research studies.

  • Manages equipment and supplies.

  • Trains and mentors more junior personnel.

  • Writes and maintains detailed laboratory records and maintains a clean and safe laboratory environment.

  • Orders equipment and supplies.

  • Ability to work both independently and as a team with CNIH personnel, other contractors, government civilians, and military personnel.

  • Excellent organizational, documentation and record keeping skills.

  • Reports findings to the scientific lead.

  • Reports to, coordinates, communicates, and provides support and material inputs to the CNIH Senior Program Manager as required.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Research Assistant II - Serology Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • BS/BA with 3+ years of experience or an MS with 3+ years of experience required in Biology, Immunology, Biomedical Science, or a related field, of with the past two years specifically being within Serology.

  • Advanced wet laboratory experience in maintaining, expanding, and freezing a diverse range of cell lines (mammalian and insect cell lines), virus neutralization assay, virus amplification, concentration and purification, immunostaining assays; collecting, analyzing, and reporting on experimental data and results.

  • Advance wet laboratory experience in cell culture and/or cellular-based assays, protein expression analysis and assay development, flow cytometry, and ELISA

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in virology.

  • Ability to follow strict timing guidelines for all scheduled operations and experiments

  • Training in and/or operation of a flow cytometer

  • Performance of mammalian cell culture

  • Performance of ELISA/western blot and other measurements of protein expression

  • Lab management in a GLP/GCLP/GMP regulated environment

  • Ability to accurately collect, collate and enter data into a database

  • Experience with data analysis software to include Microsoft Office and or GraphPad Prism

  • Must pass the pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
