Overall Purpose:

The Manager, Infrastructure Engineering is a self-motivated individual with strong project management, problem-solving and analytical skills. The Manager will lead a team of highly talented Windows Engineers to facilitate the administration of DLC's Windows based computing environments. The Intel Server team is team of eight people.



The Manager will provide the leadership required to support these primary functions: Microsoft Server 2022, Microsoft Configuration Manager, Intune, Active Directory, SQL Databases, O365, VMware, Nutanix Hyperconverged infrastructure and an increasing transition of infrastructure to the Cloud. Assist in driving an "infrastructure as code" mentality throughout the organization and demonstrate a passion for automation concepts and tools. The Manager, Infrastructure Engineering has the responsibility for maintaining critical applications' uptime and reliability as well as collaborating with business leadership to identify technologies that drive operational efficiency and value.



Location: Hybrid, downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania



Responsibilities of the manager include, but are not limited to:



  • Manage day to day operations of a highly virtualized Windows compute infrastructure.


  • Ensure all server systems comply with DLC regulatory and cyber requirements.
  • Manage Windows Server related projects and prepare and present status updates for leadership.
  • Supervise the preparation and presentation of status updates for team assignments and projects.
  • Drive automation of Windows systems to improve server build process and minimize toil on repeatable tasks
  • Develop, manage, and own technology roadmaps for Windows, SCCM and M365.
  • Forecast system demands and recommend upgrades, expansions, and reconfiguration.
  • Resource planning for team members, server capacity, infrastructure growth and EOL assets
  • Provide input into strategic compute infrastructure plans and help drive alignment with application teams, cyber security, and business.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., PC Support, IT applications, Networking, IT Operations, Linux Infrastructure, Customer Service etc.) to develop plans and end-to-end solutions.
  • Provide status reporting (availability, performance capacity utilization, and lifecycle management)
  • Create and maintain process & policy documentation.
  • Work with auditors to remediate and closeout all remediation, regulatory, and audit findings.
  • Assist with Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Information (RFI) development in coordination with Supply Chain.
  • Responsible for risk registry and change management process for Windows server infrastructure and SQL Databases
  • Practice good judgment and escalate when necessary to keep management informed.
  • Support the development of the 5-year capital plan for assigned area.
  • Development and leadership of team members, and performing required people management activities.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance of applications or tools within area of responsibility.
  • Represent DLC and participate in industry forums and user groups.



Qualifications Required:



  • Bachelor's degree in a computer science, engineering, or related technical field.
  • Seven (7) years related experience.
  • Equivalent experience/certifications/degrees will be taken into consideration in lieu of specific requirements.



Qualifications Preferred:



  • Previous IT management experience.
  • Utility Experience
  • Understanding of NERC/CIP requirements and experience working in a NERC/CIP controlled environment.
  • Project management and execution experience.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, creative, and leadership skills with the ability to exhibit sound judgment. Able to express verbal and written information effectively.
  • Empathetic leader who can collaborate with others in the organization and develop a team that is able to support Duquesne Light Company's vision and leadership standards.
  • Experience with some or all the following: Evaluating alternative IT Solutions, developing IT roadmaps, project management, ITIL background preferred, vendor management and RFP issuance and evaluation, supporting vendor developed applications.



Scope

Primary focus is on day to day management of operational execution. Also develops and exercises business plans, policies, and procedures. Contributes to proactive planning exercises of management team as requested. Trains and develops staff. Plans the work flow. Looks for areas of process improvement and directs available resources to accomplish this. Leads changes and implementations for direct team as pushed down through the organization.



Decision Impact

Resolves problems of a greater complexity than the Supervisor level. Improves existing processes and systems using conceptualizing, reasoning, and interpretation skills. Solutions require thorough understanding of business strategies and issues. Defines broad based solutions that would require consideration of wider implications on organization results & resources.



Hybrid Work

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.



Storm Roles

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
