Job Summary:

The Senior Director of Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing operational performance across pharmaceutical manufacturing and business functions. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), optimizing semi-solid production processes, and driving operational excellence. The Senior Director partners with cross-functional leaders to align operations with strategic objectives.

Reporting to: General Manager

Location: Onsite, Johnson City Manufacturing Plant

Responsibilities/Essential Duties:




  • Strategic & Operational Leadership



    • Define and implement operational strategies aligned with corporate goals.
    • Lead long-term planning, process optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing and operations.


    Pharmaceutical Manufacturing & GMP Compliance



    • Oversee semi-solid production manufacturing and packaging (creams, ointments, gels, lotions, etc.) with a strong emphasis on quality and efficiency.
    • Ensure strict compliance with cGMP, FDA, and other regulatory guidelines.
    • Establish and monitor SOPs, batch records, to meet quality standards.
    • Partner with Quality Assurance to manage audits, inspections, and regulatory submissions.


    Operational Excellence



    • Drive productivity, cost-efficiency, and scalability across operations.
    • Implement metrics, KPIs, and dashboards to measure performance and compliance.
    • Standardize processes to support seamless technology transfer and scale-up activities.


    Team Leadership & Development



    • Lead, coach, and inspire a diverse operations team, including manufacturing, packaging and maintenance personnel.
    • Build a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous learning.
    • Develop talent pipelines and succession planning strategies.


    Cross-Functional Collaboration



    • Work closely with R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to ensure alignment in production and operational priorities.
    • Support technology transfer of new semi-solid formulations from development to commercial scale.


    Financial & Resource Management



    • Manage budgets, forecasts, and resource allocation within manufacturing and operations.
    • Drive cost-optimization initiatives without compromising product quality and compliance.




Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelors degree in a related field required; advanced degree, MS or MBA preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in semi-solid operations, includingGMP-regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in semi-solid dosage form manufacturing and scale-up.
  • Strong understanding of FDA, EMA, and ICH guidelines.
  • Proven track record in leading manufacturing operations, audits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Deep knowledge of cGMP regulations and pharmaceutical manufacturing standards.
  • Expertise in semi-solid formulation and production processes.
  • Experience with LEAN manufacturing.
  • Strong analytical and strategic decision-making abilities.
  • Skilled in driving operational efficiency and business transformation.
  • Collaborative leader with the ability to influence across functions.
