Director, Technical Operations, J.E. Broyhill Civic Center Salary Description Examples of Duties Essential Functions: Provides on-site presence and support for incoming events to include lighting, sound, and other production requirements related to the auditorium. Operates technical equipment of Civic Center in absence of technical staff. Directs, plans, and oversees/participates in Civic Center technical operations; participates in the development and administration of the Civic Center budget; recommends funds for equipment, materials and supplies; recommends staffing needs and assigns technical staff activities/monitors workflow, maintains payroll and attendance records, reviews and evaluates work product; monitors and approves expenditures. Facilitates and observes all OSHA, NFPA, and ADA requirements related to facility operations. Serves as Safety Officer for Civic Center; represents Civic Center on College Safety Committee. Coordinates/assesses technical production and technical rental needs in the Auditorium; advises clients of the services available at the JEBCC; prepares budgetary reports and procures rental equipment/services for upcoming productions. Evaluates and prepares budgetary reports for upcoming productions; supports College functions and cultural activities. Recruits, schedules, trains and oversees technical staff and contractors for event operations. Provides day-to-day operational management of technical staff. Conducts inventory of Civic Center production, technical and facility equipment; maintains, evaluates and recommends replacement and/or procurement of production/technical/facility equipment and supply inventory. Ensures safe and timely opening/closure of the Civic Center; ensures facility is presentable for use and premises are secure at the close of each event. Attends various meetings, seminars and conferences as a representative of the College. Marginal Functions: Serves as back-up to Director, Arts & Patron Services as needed. Participates in professional development activities and required employee training. Performs other duties as assigned. Organizational and management practices as applied to the planning, analysis and evaluation of division programs, policies, and operational needs. Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment including but not limited to ticketing and point of sale systems. Basic mathematical calculations. Occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions. Basic working knowledge of electrical principles in a technical production environment. Basic TCP/IP networking skills to include IPV4, wireless, and DHCP. Practices and techniques for the operation and design of basic theatrical sound, lighting, and video operations. Methods, materials, techniques and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities. Procedures and techniques of diagnostic equipment. Basic knowledge of the operation of a single purchase counterweight system. English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment. Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations. Ability to: Interpret and apply college and assigned division goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals. Supervise, train and evaluate staff and contract labor. Prepare clear and concise administrative and financial reports. Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws, and regulations. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Interpret, explain, and enforce departmental policies and procedures. Work independently in the absence of supervision. Environmental Conditions: The employee should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve an office, classroom, theatre and meeting workspaces; working with machinery; exposure to dust and dirt; working at heights on scaffolding and ladder; may be exposed to hazardous chemicals and materials. The employee must sustain the environment by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment. Physical Conditions: Physical and marginal functions require the ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following; standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, sitting, climbing, and descending for extended periods, frequently lifting and carrying 60 pounds in difficult work positions, periodically lifting or moving 75 pounds in difficult work positions, general manual dexterity, operating assigned equipment, and repeated bending is required. Lifting occasionally occurs in difficult work positions, including an auditorium catwalk at 70+ feet in height. The employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously. Additionally, the employee must maintain mental capacity, which permits making sound decisions and using good judgment, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and personnel. Scheduling Conditions: This is a full-time working 36-hours a week, with a varied schedule which requires availability for nights, early mornings and/or weekends on any CCC&TI site or arranged off-campus site, as needed. Traveling Conditions: Local travel between the Caldwell campus, Watauga campus, or any off-campus site may be needed. Out-of-state travel is limited but may be required for training and conferences.
