OVERVIEW

Merrick & Company is seeking a college or graduate school Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering student for a paid summer internship for Summer 2026 in our Oak Ridge, Tennessee office. The summer internship has a commitment of approximately mid-May through mid-August 2026.

We will be accepting resumes for this opportunity from approximately September - October 2025. Resumes will be reviewed as they are received. Interviews will take place in the Fall/Winter. Offers will be extended in Winter/Spring. Timeframe subject to change.


WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Merrick Intern Program will provide an undergraduate or graduate student an opportunity to gain technical experience in the field of structural engineering. The intern will be exposed to a variety of structural engineering items potentially including: structural analysis using computer finite element analysis, structural steel design, concrete design, analysis of existing structures, exposure to ASCE, AISC and ACI codes and standards, and exposure to drawing creation using AutoCAD and Revit as well as engineering quality assurance procedures.

The position requires collaboration with other disciplines, ability to follow schedules and budget commitments, work independently, possess good written and oral communication skills and the ability to problem solve. Must meet expectations for attendance and punctuality.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have graduation date after August 2026 to be eligible.
  • Must be pursuing an engineering degree in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering from an A.B.E.T. accredited program
  • Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of undergraduate degree or currently enrolled in grad school
  • Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience or exposure to AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Experience or exposure to Finite Element Analysis software such as SAP2000, RISA3D, GT STRUDL, or STAAD Pro.
  • Previous internship in Civil/Structural Engineering.
