Position Summary

The NDT Trade Assistant supports technicians in carrying out non-destructive testing activities. Responsibilities include preparing tools and equipment, assisting with test setups, and ensuring safe and efficient worksite operations. This role provides hands-on experience while contributing to accurate inspection outcomes.

This position will be reporting to the Project Manager and based in Papua New Guinea.


Duties And Responsibilities
  • Ensuring that Oceaneering's HSE Management System and expectations are fully implemented with Regional Operations and compliant with local regulations
  • Performing tasks under the Supervision of Level II or Level III personnel
  • Setting up NDT equipment
  • Performing/conducting NDT
  • Recording and classifying the results of the tests in accordance with written criteria
  • Reporting results of NDT to relevant personnel

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree in related field, significant or equivalent Industry experience
  • Relevant state Radiation Licence
  • Magnetic Particle (MT) or
  • Liquid Penetrant (PT) as well as
  • Eddy Current Testing (ECT) (desirable)
  • Eddy Current Welds (ETW) (desirable)
  • Radiographic Testing (RT) (desirable)
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT) (desirable)
  • Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI) (desirable)
  • TBOSIET
  • Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC)
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in operational environments as an NDT Technician
  • Experience in all qualified testing methods.
  • Have a general knowledge of other NDT methods, product manufacturing and inspection technology used by the Company performing NDT
  • Experience in completing NDT worksheets and reports

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of the Oil & Gas Industry including related Legislation, Acts and Regulations, Industry Standards and Codes
  • Knowledge of NATA requirements
  • High level of written and verbal communication
  • Ability to maintain effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work tasks/environment
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables
  • Knowledge of safety standards (e.g. Step Back 5x5, JSEA, HSEQ systems etc.)

Working Conditions

This position is considered ONSHORE WORK which is characterized as follows:

  • Outdoors majority of the time on work site, day or night. Some indoor office for reporting.
  • Requires working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
  • Frequently the humidity is above 90%, noise is over 85 decibels, and the light is intense/glare.
  • Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks on adjacent work
  • Exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases at work site
  • Work surface is stable, height is elevated. Use of ladders and scaffold for some access.
  • Confined space required but infrequent.
