Biological Sciences
Reports To:
Professor
Position Type:
Staff
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced researcher to
assist in the development of and simulation of a robot algorithm for a
self-assembling conveyor system. The postdoc will work alongside Drs. Simon
Garnier, Jason Graham, and Petras Swissler to rigorously develop, analyze, and
validate a slime-mold-derived algorithm, simulate the algorithm using a
high-fidelity robot simulator such as ROS, and assist in deploying the
algorithm on real-world robot hardware. We eventually aim to transition this
project to a self-sustaining startup company.
Essential Functions:
-Perform rigorous validation of a
bio-inspired routing algorithm.
-Develop a low-level library implementing the building blocks of the algorithm
and the bindings for high-level languages such as Python.
-Implement the algorithm in a high-fidelity
simulation environment and assist in deploying the algorithm on real robot
hardware.
-Collaborate with other team members across
three universities, including collaborators on robot hardware, UI, executing
pilot studies, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
-Participate in weekly project meetings.
-Author publications pertinent to research
performed.
