SUMMARY The Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical support to patients and assists care providers with clinical and administrative support. This role is at our Health Pavilions Adolescent Medicine Health Clinic. Adolescent Medicine Clinic sees patients age 12-23 years for primary care in addition to consultative care for patients referred from community and hospital providers for issues including eating disorders, mental health concerns (depression, anxiety, etc.), autonomic dysfunction/POTS, fatigue, ADHD, reproductive and sexual health concerns, and gynecologic care. We truly value adolescents as individuals, emphasize confidentiality and empower patients as they begin steps in transitioning from a pediatric to adult care model of health care. Job Status: Flex. Requires at least (2) 8-hour shift per pay period. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. Conducts quality checks. Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. Reports areas of concern to next care provider. Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic testing; disposing of contaminated supplies; cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments; administering medications per policy and procedures; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies and other duties within scope. Assists in balancing workloads, coordinates and maintains clinic flow by coordinating with providers, and monitoring patient flow. Provides phlebotomy. Completes lab test follow up and medical record documentation. Prepares and completes medical record for visit by recording patient information, treatment, and test results. Assists with patient "MyChart" enrollment. Participates in the standardized education of patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by provider. Independently initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations. Provides general office support including phone and fax management. Serves as the preceptor for new staff, including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment and monitoring progress. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential. Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION - High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program. EXPERIENCE - None EQUIVALENCY - One year of experience in a direct health care role may substitute for graduation from a Medical Assistant program. CERTIFICATION(S) - BLS for Healthcare Providers / CPR.
