Position Summary Under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager, the Head Water Polo Coach will oversee all aspects of the water polo programs, including coach hiring, scheduling & supervision; program curriculum development; program implementation & marketing. The Head Coach will be responsible for the implementation of both youth & adult offerings and be able to ensure all Salvation Army safety protocols are maintained consistently. The Head Coach will be primary point of contact regarding the program and both internally (Guest Services; other departments) and externally (players, parents, outside collaborative agencies). Essential Functions
- To know, explain and exemplify the mission, purpose, and values of the Kroc Center and The Salvation Army (TSA).
- Follow and adhere to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
- Provide direct operational oversight for all Water Polo offerings (Drop-in, Privates), programs (Splash Pals, Leagues), and coaches.
- Lead marketing, outreach, and recruitment efforts to grow program participation, build community partnerships, and elevate the visibility and impact of the water polo offerings.
- Administrative duties include preparing and reviewing program budget, inputting class registrations, completing various program reports, handling of all program correspondence, surveys, report cards, and other documents.
- Develop, implement & regularly refine professional development opportunities for coaches.
- Evaluate offerings to ensure that they meet the needs of the participants and the community.
- Communicate respectfully with peers, supervisors, and customers of various socio-economic backgrounds. Handle disputes with participants and parents in a professional manner with guidance from the Aquatics Manager.
- Ensure the safe use of the facility and equipment through enforcement of activity-specific regulations.
- Maintain a safe play environment; report all potential PTM problems according to Salvation Army protocol.
- Keep player issues confidential. Do not share issues with other players, parents, news organizations, volunteers, or staff members who are not involved.
- Ensure that injuries, accidents, and incidents are reported immediately to the Aquatics Manager & in accordance with Salvation Army incident reporting procedures. providing report copies to the appropriate parties.
- Must wear Kroc Center approved apparel as assigned by management.
- Plan, Schedule and Conduct Coach Inservice's.
- Must have ability to work flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and split shifts (depending on season).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift & carry 40lbs.
- Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department & The Salvation Army.
- Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the high demands of the aquatics department.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 20 years of age.
- Experience playing and, preferably, coaching, water polo to various skill levels.
- Minimum two years' seasonal experience as an Aquatics Coach or Sport's and Recreational Coach.
- Must possess and maintain current certificates in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR/AED, and Oxygen/Epinephrine Administration.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Must be able to design high-quality, up-to-date, scientifically sound, safe and effective Water Polo training sessions for a variety of student ability levels.
- Strong understanding of water polo rules, game strategy, and in-pool safety etiquette to ensure players compete confidently, respectfully, and safely.
- Must uphold the scope and practice of Aquatic coaching professionals.
- Ability to maintain a non-judgmental attitude in working with coworkers and participants.
- Must have the ability to instruct with proficiency, with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate well in English required; bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
