Seneca Federal Solutions has an immediate opening for an Archaeologist/Archaeological Technician. Responsibilities Include:
- Serving as a crew member and field lead on archaeological surveys, monitoring, testing, and excavation projects throughout Arizona and adjacent states.
- Identifying, recording, and documenting archaeological features, artifacts, and cultural landscapes in compliance with Section 106, NEPA, and SHPO requirements.
- Assisting with laboratory tasks including washing, cataloging, inventorying, and analyzing artifacts.
- Supporting the preparation of survey forms, site records, technical reports, and cultural resources documentation for agency submittals.
- Coordinating with crew members, supervisors, and agency representatives to ensure compliance with project scopes, health and safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Assisting in GIS mapping, GPS data collection, and database management.
- Participating in stakeholder coordination, including tribal consultation and historic preservation compliance activities.
- Ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality work in remote and sometimes extreme outdoor environments.
Position Requires:
- Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or related field.
- Successful completion of archaeological field school.
- 1+ years of cultural resources management (CRM) experience.
- Demonstrated ability to identify archaeological features, artifacts, and historic properties in the field.
- Strong knowledge of cultural resource survey, monitoring, and excavation methods.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures and remote locations; camping may be required.
- Ability to walk up to 10 miles per day over rough or steep terrain.
- Willingness to work irregular schedules, including weekends and overnight assignments.
- Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and clients.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. and able to obtain security clearance if project requirements dictate.
Preferred / Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related discipline.
- Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) certification.
- Prior experience preparing cultural resources documentation for Section 106 and NEPA compliance.
- Familiarity with SHPO/THPO consultation processes.
- Experience with federal CRM projects (VA, DoD, DOI, USACE, BLM, NPS, or USDA).
- Proficiency in GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS) and GPS mapping technologies.
- Knowledge of environmental and cultural compliance frameworks (NEPA, RCRA, CERCLA, ESA).
- Certifications such as HAZWOPER (40-Hour), OSHA 10/30, or First Aid/CPR.
- Prior experience coordinating with tribal governments and historic preservation stakeholders.
- Eligibility to serve as a Field Director or Principal Investigator under Arizona State Museum (ASM) or BLM standards.
