Position Highlights |
The Digital Preservation and Production Unit (DPPU) seeks an enthusiastic and community-minded Wildcats Memory Lab Outreach Assistant to support the continued development and activation of the Wildcats Memory Lab. Situated within the DPPU of the University of Arizona Libraries, this position will play a key role in expanding outreach, developing and delivering workshops, building sustainable documentation and training resources, and providing direct support to campus and community members interested in personal archiving and digital preservation. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of digital preservation practices, experience teaching or conducting outreach, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the initiative to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision. Duties & Responsibilities |
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
- Conduct one-on-one
or small-group orientation sessions with new users to train them in the safe and effective use of lab equipment. - Serve as the
primary point of contact for Memory Lab operations during scheduled hours. - Create, expand, and
maintain clear, user-friendly documentation, recorded tutorials, and other reusable training resources for lab users and staff. - Develop and lead
workshops for faculty, students, and community members on topics related to personal archiving and digital preservation (e.g., media digitization, file management, digital estate planning). - Perform targeted
outreach to faculty, community groups, and campus partners to build partnerships, promote the lab's services, and identify curricular integration opportunities. - Collaborate with
the School of Information Science to support graduate internships and mentorship opportunities. - Maintain and
troubleshoot digitization equipment and software, escalating issues to DPPU and TeSS staff as needed. - Assist in planning
and hosting special public events, community archiving days, and collaborative projects. - Document common
questions, user challenges, and solutions to build a sustainable knowledge base for future lab users and staff. - Use project
management tools such as Trello, Slack, and Google Drive to document work and communicate with the project team. - Follow established
best practices for handling rare or fragile archival materials with care. - The UA Libraries support the UA's strategic
initiatives designed to create welcoming environment for all faculty, staff, and students. The candidate is expected to support related strategic efforts in the department and Libraries. - Other duties as
assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of digital
preservation and digitization technologies and workflows. - Ability to teach and communicate complex technical
concepts clearly to various audiences - Ability to perform basic technology
troubleshooting and elevate problems and questions when needed. - Strong written and verbal communication
skills. - Ability to organize tasks and manage
multiple projects simultaneously. - High level of initiative, creativity,
and problem-solving skills. - Ability to work in a highly collaborative
environment, one that values and leverages the benefits of a variety of perspectives. - Ability to work independently in a
supportive team environment. - Positive attitude and strong
demonstration of UA Libraries' Values. - Knowledge and skill in the principles of community engagement
and public service.

Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent
combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience with digitization equipment or digital preservation tools.
- Experience developing and delivering instructional workshops or training sessions.
- Experience writing technical or instructional documentation.
- Experience conducting community outreach.
- Experience with using project management and collaboration tools (e.g., Trello, Slack, Google Drive).
