Position Highlights

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is accepting applications for the Temporary position of Instructional Specialist Sr. (Instructional Specialist III). These positions are hired to teach chemistry and/or biochemistry laboratory classes. They are experienced instructors who take a leadership role among the many TAs employed by CBC.

This is a temporary position for one semester.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Run (teach) laboratory sessions as directed by the laboratory course 30 supervisor. (Each lab section is considered 0.25 FTE).
  • Assess student lab performance and ensure lab safety protocol is followed.
  • Grade laboratory assignments for the students in your sections.
  • Attend and participate in weekly laboratory staff meetings (typically one hour per week). Prepare to teach lab sections.
  • Other duties (depending on assignment and candidate experience) may include:
    • Attending lectures
    • Proctoring and/or grading lecture exams.
    • Assisting lab supervisor with observation, training, and coaching of less experienced TAs.
  • Office hours and assisting students with questions via email.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong foundational knowledge of chemistry.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • BS in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field.
