Summary

Balfour Beatty is seeking a Senior VDC Engineer to join our Carolinas team. The ideal candidate will be a technically skilled and detail-oriented professional experienced in model coordination and trade integration. This role focuses on implementing Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes to support design, preconstruction, and field operations.

The Senior VDC Engineer will lead model coordination efforts with internal teams, design partners, and trade contractors - ensuring accurate, constructible, and up-to-date models are available throughout the project lifecycle. This position is hands-on in nature, emphasizing modeling and coordination over field operations or robotics applications.

You'll work collaboratively with project teams to support technology integration, facilitate model-based workflows, and drive efficiency through digital tools and innovative practices. This position offers opportunities to engage on large, complex projects while developing best practices that advance Balfour Beatty's digital delivery goals.

Essential Functions

  • Model Coordination: Lead and facilitate multi-trade coordination and clash detection meetings using Navisworks and Revit; manage and distribute coordination models for all project stakeholders.

  • VDC Implementation: Support BIM execution planning, model logistics, and data management; ensure adherence to company VDC standards and processes (including R5 workflow).

  • Model Development: Create and maintain models for architectural, structural, and MEP systems at appropriate Levels of Development (LOD) throughout design and construction.

  • MEP & Trade Integration: Coordinate building systems with trade partners to resolve design conflicts and ensure constructability of MEP, civil, and structural elements.

  • Technology Support: Provide model-based support for project documentation, layout, and field use; assist teams with Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) workflows.

  • Quality & Accuracy: Ensure models are accurate, current, and consistent with construction documentation; implement model audit and validation checks.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Serve as the liaison between project teams, designers, and subcontractors to promote alignment, efficiency, and digital best practices.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in VDC/BIM modeling and coordination within the construction industry.
  • Proficient with Navisworks, Revit, and Procore.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and BIM 360/ACC; familiarity with Autodesk Forma a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with MEP coordination, CAD standards, R5 process workflows, and Level of Development (LOD) modeling.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience coordinating large, complex projects with multiple trades.
  • Exposure to preconstruction modeling and estimating workflows.
  • Familiarity with lean construction principles and model-based scheduling.
  • Revit family creation or content management experience.
