What to Expect
Tesla's manufacturing engineering team is at the forefront of developing first-of-a-kind processes which allow us to produce amazing products at best-in-class quality and rate in a safe and ergonomic environment. The Materials Engineering group is seeking a Manager to lead our Manufacturing Engineering team through the design and development of the processes used in the manufacturing of our products, including specification and validation, establishing and optimizing critical process parameters, design for manufacturing, equipment specification and design, as well as installation and commissioning. The candidate will lead the team and work closely with internal cross-functional teams, external vendors, and technology partners on process development from concept to production.
What You'll Do
- Oversee individuals tasked with delivering multiple new coatings manufacturing lines, applying a first principles approach to develop new processes on time and within budget
- Manage deliverables, including novel process development, developing process selection tools, providing technical process information to internal customers, developing cost estimates, and optimization of existing processes
- Lead a team of subject matter experts across multiple areas of Manufacturing Engineering
- Cultivate strong relationships and cross-functional collaboration by partnering with Design Engineering, Materials Engineering, Supply Chain, and other Manufacturing Engineering teams
- Plan manpower needs, recruit top talent, drive continuous improvement and recognize exceptional employee performance
- Achieve results by setting priorities, communicating expectations, planning and monitoring progress
- Be accountable to the success of each project and communicate team progress and roadblocks broadly and cross-functionally
What You'll Bring
- Expertise in manufacturing engineering to solve complex challenges in areas such as Paint and Powder Coatings, Surface Finishing, Sealing, and related processes
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, or other equivalent Engineering discipline with at least 3 years of engineering leadership in a high-production industry (automotive experience preferred), or equivalent experience
- Proven ability to build and lead high-performing engineering teams, managing multiple complex projects and meet tight deadlines
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle competing demands
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly
- A proactive, positive, and resilient approach to work, with strong accountability for outcomes
