LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE & INSURANCE, FIRE PREVENTION DIVISION, HAMILTON COUNTY Qualifications Education and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and experience equivalent to four or more years of increasing responsibility or skilled full-time electrical work, which includes installation of equipment, infrastructures, and electrical systems. Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional qualifying coursework from an accredited college, university, technical institute or vocational school in electrical technology, mechanical technology, engineering or other related acceptable field may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of two years. Must be certified by the National Certification Program for Construction Codes Inspectors (NCPCCI), the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) or the International Code Council (ICC) as a One and Two Family Electrical Inspector and an Electrical General Inspector, and licensed by the State of Tennessee. A valid motor vehicle license may be required for employment in some positions. Overview This classification has an average sized workload functioning at the intermediate level in performing electrical inspection work of considerable difficulty. An employee in this class is responsible for ensuring electrical systems integrity, working with CORE (Comprehensive Online Regulatory and Enforcement System), and requesting/transferring inspections. This class differs from that of Electrical Inspector Associate in that an incumbent of the latter is not certified and not responsible for conducting electrical inspections. This class differs from that of Electrical Inspector 3 in that an incumbent of the latter class supervises and audits contracted inspectors and serves as the first level of code interpretation. *This classification is flexibly staffed with Electrical Inspector Associate. Responsibilities 1. Responds to any electrical inquires, policy, procedure, and TCA (Tennessee Code Annotated) for electrical contractors, issuing agents, power supply companies, homeowners, builders and those in the business community. Schedules electrical inspections in the CORE licensing system to ensure that timelines established by law and regulation are met. Interprets or explains rejection notices to customers.
