Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer to provide support to the USAF Aerospace Management Systems Division's USAF Weather Systems Branch. The candidate will provide Systems Engineering assistance that applies a broad theoretical and practical knowledge of system engineering to the acquisition process. The candidate will also prov engineering support in the design, operation, and sustainment of systems and components that co tasks throughout the acquisition life cycle (requirements analysis through system disposal).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline
  • 10 years of directly related experience with 5 years of experience in a DoD setting
  • Experience in requirements development, production and deployment, operations and support, architecture development and implementation, and modeling and simulation-including, but not limited to, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles.
  • Proficiency in verification and validation, technical data package development and sustainment, and a strong understanding of configuration management principles.
  • Experience working with network architectures, embedded systems, and application deployment across diverse platforms and hardware.
  • Familiarity with Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition processes, including Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction (TMRR), Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD), and Production and Deployment (P&D) phases.
  • General management skills to effectively plan and execute engineering tasks.
  • Understanding of DoD communications systems and processes.
  • Working knowledge of common ports and protocols, and the ability to distinguish between serial and IP-routed data.
  • Familiarity with modern IT systems and weather-related operational technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide engineering support for both new and legacy systems.
  • Lead the design, integration, and connectivity of primary systems and associated subsystems.
  • Accomplish and coordinate engineering tasks related to system modifications and upgrades.
  • Support customers by performing data analysis and providing technical assistance for modification programs, repair requirements, reliability and maintainability (R&M) actions, and global user support.
  • Assist with the design, planning, execution, analysis, reporting, and documentation of all phases of test and evaluation programs-including applicable FAA certifications and procedures-to assess the performance of systems, subsystems, components, and equipment.
  • Serve as a technical bridge between engineering disciplines and program management, particularly in applying general engineering and physics knowledge related to electrical systems and the electromagnetic spectrum.
  • Conduct engineering reviews across the program lifecycle to ensure technical accuracy and completeness.
  • Review and validate engineering documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
  • Participate in the development of system specifications and system architecture documentation.
  • Support test and evaluation activities, including test planning, execution, and evaluation of results against operational requirements.
  • Coordinate scheduling and secure required test resources in support of project and program objectives.
  • Provide technical evaluations and recommendations on contractor proposals.
  • Monitor and assess the status of test and evaluation efforts across system types, and provide on-site recommendations for test facility improvements.
  • Support the development of system and program technical plans, including reviewing technical documents, participating in working groups, tracking risk and issue resolution, reviewing test plans and procedures, and contributing to special studies exploring alternative approaches.
