Overview

Astrion is looking for a Space Systems Engineer (MBSE) to support the Space Systems Integration Office (SSIO) Global Mission Operations (GMO) Space Integration Branch located at United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC), Los Angeles AFB, CA.

This individual will support programs across the SSIO portfolio to develop and analyze capabilities, missions, operations, personnel and mature mission-critical systems across the USSF Space Enterprise. In addition, this individual will support integration activities of space systems to develop and deploy space system-of-systems capabilities across the SSC portfolio and USSF Space Enterprise.

Salary is in the 140k - 165k range. TS clearance is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and Digital Engineering (DE) in support of U.S. Space Force (USSF).
    Responsibilities include providing support for a variety of tasks and projects to include (but not limited to):
    - Create and document an analytic framework for M&S potential System-of-Systems (SoS) and Federation-of-Systems (FoS) materiel solutions and concepts under day-in-the-life scenarios to evaluate and recommend modernization updates.
    - Create analytic tooling and perform trade study assessments of (and recommend changes to) candidate surface, air and space mission systems.
    - Design, develop and test critical software applications throughout all phases of product development and operational deployment.
    - Translate customer and system requirements into robust software design using a test-driven approach.
    - Collaborate with Systems Engineers and Government Customers to understand and define life-cycle requirement needs.
    - Ensure software quality by performing thorough requirements analysis, design and code reviews.
    - Communicate project plans, tracking details, status updates and risk mitigation plans to the cross-functional teams.
    - Utilize JIRA to track tasks, report progress and manage issues throughout the project lifecycle.
    - Support engineering management analysis and provide the "control" of BZ engineering processes to ensure disciplined processes are in place and pedigreed while yielding highly credible products generated within BZ.
    - Support development of capability to procure, use and maintain MBSE software and tools.
    - Investigate, analyze and recommend solutions to remedy bugs and other system issues.
    - Support the development and use digital engineering environment tools - devise internal integration of SMC/BZ Models and SSC digital environment including functional installation, set-up and maintenance of M&S software for any DE Ecosystem SSC participates.
    - Provide innovative solutions.
    - Familiarity with Systems Modeling Language (SysML) architecture models to understand the data schema.
    - Experience with MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, Sparx Enterprise Architect or similar MBSE development environments.
    - Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript) for automating tasks and extending MBSE tool capabilities.
    - Knowledge of data analysis and visualization tools (e.g. MATLAB, Power BI) for interpreting simulation results and presenting findings.
Basic Qualifications
  • BS degree in Engineering, Physics, Earth Science, Mathematics, Operations Analysis, or related field.
  • 10+ years, exceptions considered based on demonstrated experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel); adaptable to new analytical tools.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and complex tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with space acquisition (military, contractor, or DoD civilian) as a SETA.
  • Familiarity with the DoD acquisition lifecycle and JCIDS processes.
  • Background in SSC mission areas: SATCOM, PNT, MW/MT, Space Weather, C3BM, Space Superiority, ISR, and Ground/Network segments.
