Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab is seeking an Administrative Assistant to join our Communications Security (COMSEC) office. JHU APL's COMSEC Office is responsible for providing critical communications support to APL classified information technology systems. This position is a critical part of allowing the COMSEC office to successfully manage all aspects of the program to include administrative support for the APL COMSEC Manager and supporting staff.

As an Administrative Assistant (COMSEC) ...

  • Your primary responsibility will be providing administrative and operations support to our team of COMSEC professionals.
  • You will assist with inventories and self-inspections or audits
  • You will assist with shipping and receiving of COMSEC Equipment
  • You will manage calendars, schedule meetings, training and equipment pickup/drop-off
  • You will process purchase requests and reconcile purchases on time.
  • You will witness and document accountable material destruction.
  • You will verify customer security clearances and determine access briefing status.
  • You will perform limited maintenance on COMSEC equipment.
  • You will prepare and distribute specific COMSEC records, files, and logs.
  • You will organize and manage group shared folders and files.
  • You will respond to employee inquiries about the COMSEC office and programs supported by it.
  • You will be responsible for coordinating surplus and keeping the up-to-date property records for the COMSEC office.
  • You will track budget requests, allocations and expenses.
  • You will organize existing COMSEC records, both paper and electronic

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a minimum of a high school diploma with at least 5 years of administrative or office experience or a Bachelor Degree with 2 years of administrative or office experience.
  • Possess knowledge of sensitive and classified information protection
  • Are knowledgeable of security program interrelationships (i. e. OPSEC, Cyber Security Physical Security, and INFOSEC) in order to coordinate security objectives
  • Have a demonstrated record of taking initiative and willingness to project a positive work attitude.
  • Possess the ability to develop and assess alternative approaches and to solve routine problems in a different, more efficient way.
  • Have the capacity to organize and reprioritize work assignments to meet evolving needs.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Have demonstrated communication skills (written and verbal) and excellent proofreading skills.
  • Are skilled in the use of desktop computer applications, including Microsoft Office applications like Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Hold an active Secret level security, and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
