NV5, Inc. is seeking a motivated and experienced seller doer individual who can perform business development, work as a Project Manager, as well as a Senior Construction Manager for our expanding Public Works Infrastructure (Water/Wastewater distribution/collection, Storm Drain, Transportation/Roadways, Electrical Streetlight/Signals, Parks, Public Buildings) engineering practice. This position requires a high degree of influence with clients, engineers, construction personnel, management, marketing professionals as well as direct oversight of staff and reports to the Director of Program Management and Construction Management. The selected candidate will become part of an established engineering and construction management practice working on Public Works infrastructure projects in the Southern California area. Demonstrated sales desire coupled with industry expertise in Public Works infrastructure projects industry is a must.



Responsibilities

Business Development responsibilities include the development of new and existing clients. Responsibilities include the following:

    Actively work with NV5's Business Development Department to respond to Request for Proposals and Requests for Qualifications.
  • Actively seek and win new work.
  • Manage ongoing work.
  • Responsible for the development of client strategy and capture of public works infrastructure-related construction management and inspection work within the Southern California Region.
  • Demonstrated leadership in pursuing work with an understanding of the public works infrastructure water market for agencies, local, state, and federal government to win new work and maintain existing clients.
  • Responsible to help formulate the strategy to capture projects for maintaining and expanding upon existing client relationships, developing and expanding new business opportunities, and staying engaged within awarded projects.
  • Cultivate, establish, and maintain client relationships, identifying and positioning them strategically to capture the best opportunities.
  • Conduct chair client interviews for new work, attend and promote interviews, and participate in client council meetings.
  • Lead client visits, prepare and present presentations to stakeholders.
  • Attend industry conferences to foster development and investment for growth.
  • Participate and present subject matter at industry-relevant conferences.
  • Coordinate with the Office Manager and operational personnel to conduct go/no discussions with business leaders, providing fundamental information to make informed decisions and effectively pursue opportunities.
  • Grows the Company with new and existing clients.
  • Works with NV5 in-house marketing staff to respond to Request for Proposal and Request for Qualifications for active and new clients.
  • Works closely with the Office Manager in the pursuit of new work.

Project/Construction Management responsibilities include the oversight of the project required to bring the project in on time and within budget.

Responsible for the following elements:

  • Leads people in public works infrastructure projects spanning through construction phases.
  • Provide project management and engineering expertise on public works infrastructure projects, work with in-house engineering experts for water transmission pipelines, sanitary sewer collection systems, tanks/reservoirs, pump stations, water and wastewater treatment, roadways, ADA improvements, street lighting and signals, parks, and public buildings. Monitor expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and report financial status regularly.
  • Collaborate closely with business development and technical leadership to deliver projects and drive business growth.
  • Tracking budget expenditures throughout the project, formulating requests for budget increases with the client if the scope expands.
  • Managing the scope of the contracted work.
  • Managing a team of inspectors, geologists, surveyors, and outside consultants responsible for construction management and inspection of water/wastewater and other infrastructure projects.
  • Confers with Director of Program Management and Construction Management and upper management for Project/Construction Management tasks, including sales, budgeting, scheduling, and invoicing.
  • Coordinates with client staff/project managers,The including Operations & Maintenance staff and other project stakeholders
  • Works closely with the Director of Program Management and Construction Management for the execution of existing work.

Senior Construction Manager candidate will manage, plan, and lead construction management projects for Public Works Infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Conducts job site meetings with the Contractor including weekly progress meetings, quality, scheduling and phasing, payment, and other coordination or field activities as they occur
  • Provides recommendations and documentation regarding: Contract disputes, Schedule Variances, Change Orders (CO) and Proposed Change Orders(PCO), Liquidated damages, Engineer potential errors and omissions
  • Participates in risk analysis identification and mitigation strategies
  • Reviews and provides input to client on the adequacy of Contractors' personnel, equipment, materials, and supplies
  • Receives, tracks, and monitors Contractors' submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs) to and from responding parties using Document Management programs. Reports submittal and RFI status to the client. Updates and maintains submittal and RFI Logs
  • Verifies and recommends approval of Contractors' progress payments. Updates and maintains Payment Log
  • Monitors Contractors' conformance with quality requirements
  • Coordinates with inspectors on the development of a list of deficiencies to determine Contractors' compliance and completion of work. Manages the correction of such defects and maintains Deficiency Log
  • Prepares Monthly Progress Reports for clients regarding milestones and the status of project
  • Reviews the Contractors' Daily Reports for accuracy and completeness
  • Coordinates start-up, testing, and commissioning of building systems with the commissioning agent
  • Provides technical direction and guidance to subordinate managers, enforces company and project policies, maintains close client interface, and ensures all facets of the project are constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule through subordinate managers and supervisors
  • Position has significant profit/loss responsibility for assigned construction project


Qualifications

  • 10 years of related experience
  • BA/BS in Engineering Discipline
  • CA PE or CCM
  • Experience with Southern California Area public agencies, cities, and other public works infrastructure clients.
  • Regional travel within Southern California.
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local jurisdiction permitting regulations for public works infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of codes and regulations, including GreenBook, California Building Code, OSHA, and MUTCD.
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office Suite, SharePoint, and P6 Scheduling Software
  • Strong Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical knowledge in public works infrastructure.
  • Strong technical knowledge in construction management and inspection.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (Safety Glasses, Hard Hat, protective footwear, respirators or other PPE as needed in compliance with OSHA regulations). Ability to work out-of-doors in inclemently hot or cold weather, sitting, standing, and walking. Most shifts are worked monitoring the contractor's standard construction shift during the day M-F, but the candidate should be willing to work nights and weekends.
Ability to travel within Southern California

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The working environment varies from a home office to a field office or a vehicle at the construction site. Construction Managers monitor the overall construction project and meet with clients. Project Managers also visit the client's offices. Construction Managers travel extensively when the construction site is not close to their main office.

The pay range for this position in California is $165,000 to $180,000 per year. The base pay offered may be higher or lower, depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
