* Temporary staff employees are ineligible to receive benefits (leave, health coverage, State service credit, etc.). They are, however, covered by Worker's Compensation provisions.
However, any non-permanent employee hired to work 30 or more hours per week for three months or more (cumulative of all positions, and not designated as variable hour worker), must be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, within 30 days of their eligibility. Any non-permanent employee hired to work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions or designated as variable hour worker - i.e. student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods. If they average 30 or more hours per week over a designated measurement period, they will be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan and will be notified of instructions.

Minimum Experience/Education

  • Masters degree completed by July 1, 2025.
  • Previous experience in academic advising.
  • Demonstration of ability to establish rapport with individuals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and the maintenance of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Highly resourceful and comfortable seeking out information.
  • Strong ability to navigate and utilize university and advising resources is key.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
Experience working as an Academic Advisor in Higher Education for 1-2 years is preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising services via in-person and/or virtual appointments to assigned students who have earned 60+ credit hours in the Criminal Justice major.
  • Respond promptly to student inquiries received via email and phone.
  • Operate autonomously while maintaining consistent communication with the Associate Director of Advising.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to student success, effectively analyzing and addressing academic needs.
