Responsibilities
Role and Responsibilities You will oversee the team responsible for transporting detainees to various locations, in addition to ensuring facility vehicles meet policies and procedures and are maintained in compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Your functions will include to:
- Interview applicants for Transportation Officer positions, as well as onboard, supervise, mentor, and evaluate selected candidates.
- Lead the team's daily operations (including scheduling) based on facility requirements and federal Department of Transportation rules and regulations Support employee development with training material and classes, such as refresher defensive driving courses.
- Monitor vehicles and schedule cost-effective maintenance, inspection services, and repairs.
- Reference Safe Stat records for your assigned vehicles and drivers.
- Report and investigate all accidents and take appropriate action, as applicable.
- Ensure that all accidents are reviewed by the safety committee.
- Conduct safety meetings and maintain constant interactions with transportation authorities to keep our safety commitment strong.
- Attend at least 8 hours per year of transportation or regulatory training.
Qualifications
Competencies Required If you enjoy working with many different people, have a cooperative spirit, thrive in a challenging environment, and are comfortable using software for employee supervision, you could be the person we're looking for. Apply if you meet the following: Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or GED certificate.
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Six (6) months experience in detainee and inmate transportation
- Depending on state requirements, a valid "Class B" or "Class C" Chauffeurs Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) endorsement within six (6) months of appointment to position.
- Eighty (80) hours of verified and certified driver's training from an approved company trainer and as defined by the U.S. Department of Transportation within six (6) months of appointment to position.
- A current driver's license with no preventable accidents, suspensions for driving convictions, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or more than two (2) moving violations on any type of vehicle for the past three (3) years.
- Passing a company and Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol test.
- Demonstrated experience to function in a supervisory capacity.
- Must have completed an approved training program resulting in a certification of satisfactory completion in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
- Must have completed necessary training as defined by the Department of Transportation (DOT).
- Must obtain and maintain certification in CPR, First Aid, Defensive Tactics and Firearms.
- Extensive knowledge of State/Contracting Agency laws relating to corrections.
- Ability to communicate and interact with a variety of personalities.
- Ability to interpret complex written/oral communication, documents, and instructions.
- Ability to make and implement decisions without assistance.
- Ability to give instructions in a manner that provided teamwork and a cooperative spirit.
- Ability to maintain high tolerance to mental stress.
- Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work in varying climatic conditions.
- Proven proficiency in the operation of a personal computer and software related to report writing, employee scheduling and information submission to the GEONET.
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently: lift, carry, push or pull up to 60 lbs. or more; reach above shoulder level, drive automatic equipment vehicles, work with machinery, climb, walk, stand, sit, work in extreme temperatures.
- Continuously: bend, stoop.
