Responsibilities
Summary: The Sales and Use Tax Manager is responsible for the management of tax matters relating to sales and use tax and business licenses under the direction of the Director of Tax. Manages sales and use tax audits and improves various tax department processes to create time and cost savings. Provides oversight of the administration of the sales and use tax compliance function. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Sales and Use Tax Manager reviews sales and use tax returns for assigned subsidiaries.
- Manages improvement project for the sale and use tax compliance and oversees implementation of new processes.
- The Sales and Use Tax Manager manages the improvement project for the business license process. Provides oversight of implementation of new processes.
- Conducts or reviews tax research & planning assignments in the area of sales and use tax.
- The Sales and Use Tax Manager maintains or reviews general ledger balances of selected tax accounts, including performing related quarterly account reconciliations.
- Works closely with accounting and other groups to obtain and validate information for new sales and use tax processes.
- The Sales and Use Tax Manager assists with due diligence on acquisitions related to sales and use taxand business licenses.
- Integrates sales and use tax and business license processes of acquired companies into Company processes.
- The Sales and Use Tax Manager manages sales and use tax audits.
- Maintains knowledge of state and local tax laws and understanding of their impact to the company.
- The Sales and Use Tax Manager assists with documentation and implementation of tax policies and procedures.
- Trains and develops staff members.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Tax and five (5) years of progressive tax experience. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred. Masters in Taxation preferred. (Experience can substitute for education on a year for year basis at management's discretion.)
- Must have extensive and proven independent experience in non-income tax matters. Must have a multi-state tax background.
- Must present effective oral and written communication skills. Must possess strong organizational skills and work-paper techniques. Must be a confident decision-maker able to produce accurate results with minimal supervision.
- Must possess strong Excel and other computer skills.
- Ability to read and analyze financial reports and legal documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers and general public.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
