Overview Steam Plant Systems Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated professional to join its management team as a Water Treatment Engineer. Strong oral and written communication skills are required, along with proven leadership abilities, including direct supervision experience and the capacity to positively manage and motivate others. The candidate must also be available for emergency work 24/7 as dictated by system conditions.A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required, along with a thorough understanding of utility/industrial boiler design, operations, maintenance, testing or analysis, and safety procedures. Experience with conventional utility boilers and chemical treatment systems such as Reverse Osmosis, Ultra-Filtration, Wastewater Treatment, and Demineralization is essential. Additionally, experience with various mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, and associated instrumentation necessary to monitor equipment status, is required. Specific experience with chemical treatment related to Steam Send out (i.e., Steam Distribution) is preferred.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Perform System Condition Assessments to identify and document system or component deficiencies, review equipment operation, and generate and drive corrective actions.
- Review and maintain System Descriptions, P&IDs and other design basis documentation.
- Perform root cause analysis of component failures and forced outage.
- Provide engineering support to Steam Stations and other organizations within Con Edison.
- Participate in project planning, outages and construction processes.
- Generate or review acceptance test plans and oversee or observe testing/commissioning.
- Interface with and track activities of equipment and service providers, both inside and outside the Company.
- Generate detailed reports and presentations to inform and guide Central Engineering capital planning and all levels of management.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of full-time work experience at an Engineer level. or
- Master's Degree in Engineering and 6 years of full-time work experience at an Engineer level.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering and 8 years of full-time work experience at an Engineer level.
Relevant Work Experience
- Working experience with Mechanical systems (i.e. pumps, compressors) is required.
- Possess strong technical competence, be well organized, and detail oriented is required.
- Flexibility to handle multiple assignments with changing priorities and meeting deadlines is required
- Demonstrate analytical skills, required.

- Knowledge of State and Federal regulations affecting steam plant operations and knowledge of industry codes and standards (i.e. ASME Boiler / Pressure Vessel code and B31.1, NBIC, NFPA 85, etc.) and process safety measures is required.
- Experience working with Water Treatment Systems is required.
- Knowledge of boiler Burner Management Systems (BMS) is highly desirable.

- Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be available to travel regionally (and potentially continent-wide), to attend conferences, meetings, etc. as required.
