NDT LEVEL III - SENIOR ENGINEER I

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE NDT LEVEL III - SENIOR ENGINEER I

  • Review and interpret NDT requirements within customer and industry specification documents. Write procedures to meet NDT requirements.
  • Lead and administer the Personnel Qualification and Certification program for qualifying NDT operators.
  • interface with customers and other third-party auditors regarding technical questions related to NDT.
  • Support NDT operations by providing training and troubleshooting as required. Review and approve certifications from outside testing sources.
  • Proactively improve and standardize NDT processes, equipment and instrumentation based on Carpenter best practices.
  • Interact with product metallurgists to improve product quality at Carpenter.
  • Stabilize NDT and other processes and implement process controls (SPC) to establish and maintain process capability using statistical methods.
  • Lead external and internal audits of NDT operations. Responsible for leading third-party audits of NDT operations such as customer, AS9100 and Nadcap audits.
  • Establishes a framework for gathering and synthesizing data to effectively detect and solve quality issues to prevent recurrence using appropriate quality strategies, tools, and techniques.
  • Facilitate developing and implementing new NDT equipment and processes.
  • Establish and implement preventive maintenance, calibrations, tests, analyses, and evaluation of NDT processes.
  • Maintain records, logs, and other formal documentation required for specific nondestructive calibrations, evaluations, and certification.
  • Administer and participate in the establishment of the qualification program for nondestructive testing personnel and procedures.
  • Review nondestructive testing specifications accompanying customer orders or inquiries and assist in the review of specification abstracts.
  • A key aspect of this role is to work on the factory floor with NDT technicians to solve day-to-day issues necessary to ensure high product quality.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED FOR THE NDT LEVEL III - SENIOR ENGINEER I

  • High school diploma plus 10 years of NDT experience, or Four-year college degree with 7 years of NDT experience.
  • Must be qualified and certifiable to NDT Level III in the UT Method as defined in SNT-TC-1A, NAS 410, as well as various customer specifications and have over 5 years of related experience.
  • Certification in other NDT methods is a plus.
  • Thorough knowledge of NDT system management, NDT audit and corrective action processes, root cause problem solving and UT and ET test equipment and various suppliers.
  • Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
  • Anticipates customer needs and associated risks; assesses requirements and identifies new solutions.
  • Leads others to resolve complex problems in non-standard situations and develop creative solutions.
  • Ability to operate a computer workstation and operate various software programs to support and continuously improve the audit process, provide guidance, assistance, and expertise to others in the form of training, coaching, and facilitating the audit process, demonstrate auditor requirements - diplomatic, patient, excellent communicator, self-disciplined, unbiased, open minded, honest, inquiring, analytical, resilient, and professional.
  • Ability to develop the NDT audit schedule and comply with planned arrangements, to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions, and to work independently of others and be self-directive and goal oriented but possess the ability to work in a team as the Team Leader or on the team with other auditors (when required).
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work safely in all production and office environments.
  • Possess working knowledge of statistical process control methods.
  • Know and adhere to all Carpenter policy and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, well organized and the ability to prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Willing to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment.
