JOB TITLE: Wind & Logistics Tech REQUISITION: FOS00FO DEPARTMENT: Generation - Western Plains Wind Site LOCATION: - Spearville, KS PAY RANGE: (Min-Mid) Wind & Logistics Tech I: $26.63 - $33.32 Wind & Logistics Tech II: $31.00 - $38.75 Sr Wind & Logistics Tech: $35.86 - $44.81 Lead Wind & Logistics Tech: $38.94 - $48.65 Note: Initial technician level and pay may be determined according to candidates' education and experience Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and on call rotation or as approved by manager/supervisor. Job may require additional hours with little to no notice including evenings and weekends. Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The Wind & Logistics Tech role is a unique combination of: * Maintaining all site inventory and managing all site component/consumables needs (primary) * Wind turbine technician responsibilities and duties (as inventory responsibilities allow) This opens the door for the person filling the role to advance through the site's three formal wind turbine technician skill levels while moving through four possible pay bands as listed above. Up to the first full year of employment will be dedicated to the training on and mastery of these inventory duties and responsibilities. This role will report directly to the site manager. Site technician supervisors will provide hands-on training of wind turbine maintenance and repair. The technician supervisors will assign wind turbine work to this role in accordance with this technician's skills and qualifications. Inventory duties will continue to take priority for this role, the tech supervisors only scheduling turbine work in the field as any remaining availability allows. The projected balance of duties will be: * Wind & Logistics Tech I: 90% time dedicated to inventory, 10% to wind technician training * Wind & Logistics Tech II: 75% time dedicated to inventory, 25% time in the field * Sr. Wind & Logistics Tech: 50% time dedicated to inventory, 50% time in the field * Lead Wind & Logistics Tech: 25% time dedicated to inventory, 75% time in the field As a logistics technician, the employee in this role will frequently perform material handling tasks including operating a forklift, packaging/unpackaging components, operating an overhead crane, stocking shelves/drawers, moving components for inventory counts and to optimize overall warehouse organization, preparing materials to be shipped off, and working with crane operators/truck drivers/contractors when receiving/shipping/staging large components. In the office, this role will need mastery of our CMMS to check parts in, check parts out, order parts and materials, create and complete physical count records, and continually update stock code and vendor information. This role will interface directly with our vendors via email, phone, video conferences and in-person meetings to build relationships, continually improve our parts procurement options, ensuring timely delivery of all critical components, and lowering materials costs. As a wind technician, this role will grow into performing maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and controller operations on Siemens SWT 2.3MW wind turbines and associated equipment. Technicians also regularly perform inspection, cleaning, and maintenance tasks related to the general site O&M facilities. Individuals must have proven aptitude for learning mechanical, electrical, control, hydraulic, and SCADA systems. Wind turbine technicians replace mechanical and electrical components, understand schematics and use appropriate diagnostic tools. Wind technician duties include: * Perform routine mechanical and electrical maintenance on wind turbines and associated equipment. * Climb wind turbine towers daily, wearing all required safety equipment, to inspect, maintain, repair or clean equipment. * Understand electrical and mechanical functions of all components of a wind turbine generator and associated equipment. * Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults; repair and/or replace components. * Perform substation MV/HV switching, grounding. * Perform scheduled and unscheduled substation inspections and minor substation repairs. * Interpret and complete complex switching orders using three-part communication. Secure equipment with LOTO. * Collect main and pad mount transformer oil samples and package for shipment. * Receive parts, stock shelves, conduct inventory. * Document completed turbine work, parts usage, and employee time in the EAM software. * Maintain company tooling, facilities and equipment and a clean safe work environment. * Performs other job-related duties as assigned. * All technicians will be provided training and continual certification for First Aid, CPR and tower/ladder rescue. Technicians must be able to pass these certification tests and are expected to exercise these skills if an emergency scenario ever occurs. Site management coordinate and participate in responding to emergency scenarios. * Responding to wind turbine alarms on weekends. All technicians on site are on a rotating weekend on-call schedule, two technicians per weekend. Current staffing requires each technician to be on call about every 6 weeks. The on-call schedule also includes holidays. * On-call responsibilities require this position to live within a 45-minute drive to site.
Education and Experience Requirements: The preferred candidate will have an associate degree in Wind Energy Technology. Requires a High school diploma. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: * Skill in oral and written communications, including the ability to prepare clear, concise reports and presentations. * Problem solving, decision making and analytical skills. * The ability to handle multiple priorities in a timely and accurate manner. * Strong attention to detail. * Strong computer operation skills, Microsoft Office Software, and EAM software. * Experience using power tools, hydraulic torquing/tensioning equipment, and electrical meters and testing equipment (Megger, etc). * Strong desire to learn, grow and advance. Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Successful candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, be able to obtain Skylotec rescue and self-rescue certification and substation operator certification. Working Conditions: Must be able to work additional hours on short notice as needed and participate in On-Call rotation. Must have satisfactory work record including good attendance. * Ability to read, comprehend and write in English. * Ability to climb stairs and ladders 80 meters in height. * Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 50 lbs. in weight. * Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time. * Ability to grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools, turbine parts. * Comfort working in confined spaces and at heights over 80 meters. * Ability to successfully participate in all training courses, including high-angle rescue and training. * Periodic walking. * Ability to hear and use close range radios. * Strong field of vision including visual depth perception and ability to distinguish colors. * Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions. * Comfort working remotely in a Turbine as part of a team with limited supervisory interaction. * Ability to work in a respirator, including passing a respirator medical evaluation and fit test (required to be clean shaven) as some assignments may require respirator use.
