Department Overview

PG&E's Power Generation Department manages and operates the largest privately-owned hydroelectric system in the nation. These renewable electric generation resources, located mostly at high elevation in California mountain ranges including the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade mountains include 68 powerhouses, 184 miles of canals, 41 miles of flumes, 135 miles of tunnels, 19 miles of penstocks, 99 reservoirs, and 142,000 acres of watershed lands all covered by 26 operating licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Position Summary

The Field Document Management team is responsible for the maintenance of and updating physical documentation and engineering records at PG&Es Hydroelectric facilities, ensuring the information presented on them is kept up to date and correct. To fulfil these responsibilities Engineering Assistant II's on the team will work closely with and liaise with Operations and Engineering personnel, regularly travelling to facilities to issue and replace documentation, identify and capture changes and corrections to documents and support Operations, Project Management and Engineering as needed.

An Engineering Assistant II performs a full range of advanced duties under guidance of management and senior employees. Many assignments are at an advanced level of knowledge of design, construction, maintenance, or the operation of the Company's assets.

This is an ESC represented exempt classification currently subject to collective bargaining.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreement, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the starting hourly rate range for this position is $56.78 to $59.44,subject to collectively bargained wage increases.

Job Responsibilities

  • Places personal, co-worker and public safety as the highest priority in all work activities.
  • Works independently where required and is responsible for engineering record management at facilities within their respective watersheds.
  • Tracks, keeps record of and audits engineering and construction drawings, documents and CAD files.
  • Regular travel (up to 75%), which may require staying overnight, and performs work onsite at various generation facilities across the PG&E service territory.
  • Adheres to all company safety procedures including wearing company required PPE (personal protective equipment).
  • Scheduling and coordinating site visits with operations and maintenance/engineering prior to joint or independent work conducted at PG&E facilities.
  • Facilitates and manages operations and maintenance driven engineering document change orders.
  • Coordinates with engineers, project management, contractors, operations and maintenance andvarious other Company stakeholders to ensure correct documentation is present at facilities.
  • Supports Engineering requests for information related to physical records at hydroelectric facilities.
  • Supports theissuance of vendor drafting and printing contracts.
  • Performs CAD drafting work where needed to assist in job completion.
  • Maintains project files and provides project documentation and status as requested, creates and updates reports related to drawing/document management and processes.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • AA or AS in Engineering OR its equivalent in technical education and experience
  • Must have a valid California Driver License

Desired:

  • Knowledge of Engineering drawings
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products like Excel and Word
  • Basic proficiency in MicroStation Connect or AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of hydroelectric power generation
  • Should be able to walk up to 1 mile on uneven terrain, regularly climb/descend stairs and perform work in potentially physically demanding and environmentally challenging conditions
  • Comfortable with lone work in remote areas
  • Experience working in FERC regulated facilities
