HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO OUR TEAM:

The General Manager leads the daily and strategic operations of Cool Fuel Transportation custom freight over-the-road (OTR) transportation company. This role is responsible for ensuring company culture, implementing Traction EOS planning and execution, building a team that understands and executes our strategic direction, annual plan and servant leader culture of caring for each other and our customers. Rooted in our servant leader values of taking care of our customers, building relationships, heart and GSD, the General Manager sets the tone for a people-focused, safe culture, delivering on our customer promise of dependable and reliable freight delivery. The GM partners with ownership to plan and execute growth and sustainability for the business.

Key Responsibilities:



  • 24-7 emergency response and driver support. This position is on call all the time, and has back up from dispatch
  • Oversee all day-to-day transportation operations, including dispatch, routing, load planning, customer service and customer relationship
  • Ensure full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and other federal/state transportation regulations
  • Manage and lead a team of drivers, dispatchers, and administrative staff, fostering a culture of accountability and safety
  • Monitor fleet maintenance schedules, repairs, inspections, and vendor performance to ensure equipment readiness and cost control
  • Spec out and continuously improve truck and trailer configuration for optimum operations and driver engagement
  • Partner with owners to develop strategic goals and annual operating plans
  • Track and analyze operational performance metrics (KPI's), including cost per mile, fuel usage, downtime, and on-time delivery rates
  • Maintain customer relationships and resolve service issues proactively and professionally
  • Recruit professional, positive attitude drivers
  • Build a team and culture of customer care, safe operation, dependable and reliable freight delivery.
  • Manage daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual KPI's, communicating honestly and openly to develop performance improvement for the team and the company.
  • Onboard, and retain drivers by supporting a positive, compliant, and transparent workplace culture as well as driving overall team engagement
  • Develop, manage and execute budgets, forecasts, and cost-saving initiatives across operations
  • Ensure accurate and timely invoicing, payroll, and record-keeping in coordination with accounting team
  • Lead regular safety communications and implement creative risk-reduction strategies
  • Stay current on industry trends and implement technology, tools, and processes to continuously improve safety and business performance
  • Support business development efforts by evaluating potential markets, partnerships, lanes, and pursuing custom freight relationships and integrating acquisitions into operations
  • Creatively and positively work with the Ascentek Enterprise to manage the movement of inbound and outbound freight for their operations and their customer service



Education:



  • CDL license, hazmat endorsement will be needed
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field
  • Equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of formal education


Experience and/or Training:



  • 5+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, service or trucking operations
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role managing teams and budgets
  • Extensive understanding and experience of the mechanics and the operation of OTR Trucks
  • Real experience with IT trucking systems and software (our systems are McLeod and Transflo)
  • Prior experience overseeing dispatch, driver and technician performance, fleet maintenance, and regulatory compliance
  • Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, safety regulations and ability to train


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Proven ability to lead teams with integrity, clarity, and a service mindset
  • Working knowledge of TMS (Transportation Management Systems) and ELD platforms
  • Ability to analyze data and financials to identify operational improvements
  • Strong problem-solving skills and situational judgment
  • Excellent communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Able to balance hands-on involvement with long-term planning and delegation



Experience and/or Training:



  • Hands-on driver experience
  • Experience working in or scaling a small business environment
  • Prior experience implementing fleet safety programs or cost-control initiatives
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a drive to improve operations and margins



    Physical, Mental, Environmental Demands:



    • Sitting at a desk or computer for extended periods
    • Oversight of shop and maintenance areas
    • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
    • Ability to travel locally or regionally to meet drivers or customers
    • Ability to receive calls outside of business hours
    • Comprehend and apply regulatory requirements and business policies
    • Make operational decisions under pressure
    • Coordinate multiple moving parts and prioritize conflicting demands
    • Maintain professionalism while interacting with customers, vendors, and team members
    • Ability to direct, plan, and problem-solve effectively
    • Occasional exposure to vehicle or maintenance noise and fumes
    • PPE required when in shop or around trucks (e.g., hi-vis vest, safety shoes)
    • You will get dirt on your hands, and grease under your fingernails
    • Your hands have to be able to grip a wheel


        The anticipated hiring range for the role you are applying for is between $80,918 and $103,043 annually. This anticipated hiring range is based on several factors, and subject to increase based on the below:



        1. Experience and qualifications: The depth of relevant experience and specific skills you bring to the position.
        2. Education and certifications: Any additional qualifications that enhance your ability to succeed in the role.
        3. Market and industry benchmarks: We compare compensation packages with industry standards to ensure we are competitive.
